As a Cardiac Sonographer in our Heart Center, you will collaborate closely with pediatric critical care medicine physicians and hospitalists, providing comprehensive coverage around the clock to ensure the highest level of care for patients with intensive care needs.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with some of the most complex heart cases, including patients fresh from open heart surgery, utilizing a variety of advanced imaging machines such as the Philips IE 33 and GE systems. Your responsibilities will extend beyond in-house patient care, as you'll also scan patients in the CVOR, Pedi Cath Labs, and travel to seven outpatient clinics throughout the city, collaborating closely with cardiologists in those settings.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Perform echocardiogram tests on patients, including preparing patients for the test, explaining procedures, positioning patients, selecting appropriate imaging techniques, and ensuring technical quality of images.
  2. Enter and monitor patient data accurately.
  3. Demonstrate excellent customer service skills, addressing concerns promptly and escalating issues when necessary.
  4. Conduct quality assurance checks on equipment and assist with accreditation applications.
  5. Identify and report any accidents, complaints, or equipment malfunctions to the Supervisor/Manager.
  6. Participate in departmental performance improvement activities.
  7. Be available for emergency calls within the department.
  8. Ensure the safety of patients, staff, and visitors by adhering to all policies, procedures, and standards.
  9. Promote individual professional growth and development by fulfilling mandatory/continuing education requirements and supporting departmental goals.
  10. Serve as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff members.
  11. Perform any other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Cardiac Sonography Technology, Radiologic Technology, or Sonography Technology (preferred)

License/Certification:

  • Certified in Basic or Advanced Life Support (required)
  • One (1) of the following certifications:Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by Cardiovascular Credentialing International
  • Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) by Cardiovascular Credentialing International
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) by American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)
