Business Data Analyst

The National Association of Testing Authorities, Australia (NATA) is Australia's national accreditation body. We provide independent assurance of the technical competence and integrity of organisations for clients who require confidence in the delivery of their products and services. 

We are seeking an experienced Business Data Analyst to join our Finance team on an 18-month, full-time fixed-term contract. In this role, you will turn data into meaningful commercial insights that support informed decision-making across the organisation.

Working closely with Finance and operational leaders, you will bring together financial and operational data to understand performance, identify cost drivers and provide practical recommendations across areas such as pricing, service delivery, resource allocation and program viability.

About the role 

• Develop, document and maintain activity-based costing, cost allocation, cost-to-serve and profitability models. 

• Identify and analyse key cost drivers and their impact on organisational performance. 

• Integrate and reconcile financial and operational data using ERP systems, Excel, Power BI, SQL or similar tools. 

• Work with the Finance Manager and ICT during ERP upgrades to maintain the integrity of system-dependent analysis and models. 

• Analyse actual performance against budget, forecasts, prior periods and relevant operational measures, explaining material variances and recommending appropriate action. 

• Provide commercial analysis to support decisions relating to pricing, service mix, program viability, investment and resource allocation. 

• Develop dashboards and reporting that provide Finance and operational leaders with meaningful and timely insights. 

• Identify data quality, process and control issues and work collaboratively with data owners to improve data integrity. 

• Support forecasting, scenario analysis and business cases requiring commercial modelling. 

• Contribute to system and process improvements that strengthen costing, analysis and organisational decision-making. 

Essential Criteria 

• CA or CPA qualification, or an equivalent relevant professional qualification, supported by strong management accounting and commercial analysis experience. 

• Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining costing frameworks, including activity-based costing, allocation methodologies and cost-driver analysis. 

• Experience across profitability, cost-to-serve, pricing, variance and scenario analysis, with the ability to turn findings into practical recommendations. 

• A track record of partnering with operational leaders to test assumptions, interpret performance and support commercial decisions. 

• Advanced Excel skills and practical experience sourcing and analysing data from ERP and operational systems. 

• Experience using ERP systems, Power BI, SQL or similar data and reporting tools. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central would be desirable. 

• A sound understanding of financial controls, data governance, data integrity and reporting requirements. 

• Strong commercial judgement, curiosity and problem-solving capability. 

• The ability to communicate complex financial and data insights clearly to a range of stakeholders. 

• The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and deliver accurate, high-quality outcomes.
