Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer with strong expertise in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to join our engineering team in the shipbuilding industry. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing structural stress analyses of metal assemblies, focussing on marine structures. Familiarity with FEA workflows including meshing, boundary condition application, and results interpretation is essential.
Tasks:
- Perform linear and nonlinear structural analyses using FEA for large structures and assemblies
- Interpret FEA results to assess stress levels, deformations, buckling and structural integrity. Validate by hand calculation if necessary.
- Document findings and provide clear engineering recommendations to design teams
- Perform simple design adaptations in CAD for iterative FEA studies
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design and classification societies
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, particularly those relevant to shipbuilding (e.g. Lloyds Register)
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Proven experience performing FEA in a professional setting, preferably in heavy industry or shipbuilding
- Proficiency with FEA tools (e.g. Siemens Simcenter, Nastran, ANSYS, Abaqus,...) Siemens Simcenter experience is preferred
- Generate high-quality FEA meshes, especially with shell elements, for complex marine structures.
- Apply appropriate boundary conditions and loads in accordance with design specifications and engineering standards.
- Strong understanding of shell element modeling and large-structure analysis
- Experience working with welded joints and evaluating weld stresses is a plus
- Knowledge of classification society standards (e.g. Lloyds Register) is desirable but not required
- Fluent in English (written and spoken), German / Dutch is a plus

- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills in structural mechanics
- Effective communication with the ability to present technical data clearly
- Experience in the marine or offshore sector is a plus
