Role Overview

As a Linux Engineer, you will be a cornerstone within our compute and storage engineering team, entrusted with the crucial task of bringing the lead architect's visions to life. Your expertise will guide the translation of complex requirements into actionable implementation plans, all while embracing our agile methodology. You'll lead the charge in automating our environment, moving us closer to our goal of a hands-off operational model after the physical setup.

Responsibilities

Implement, test, and document compute and storage environments, aligning with project standards and agile methodologies.
Engage in lifecycle management for Linux systems, including installation, maintenance, and decommissioning.
Champion the automation of our Linux environment, utilizing Ansible and collaborating with our automation team to refine processes.
Ensure system security through rigorous hardening practices and continuous integration into our observability framework.
Provide second-level support to the DevOps team, facilitating the resolution of complex issues.
Develop and maintain standards for operating systems, including the creation and upkeep of golden images.
Actively participate in cross-functional collaboration within the infrastructure team to foster innovation and stability.
Embrace the dynamic nature of our project, readily adapting to tasks beyond the usual scope and establishing effective communication channels across the program.

Must-Have Skills

Proficient in Linux (RHEL 8+/Ubuntu 22.04+), with a strong background in hardware environments.
Expertise in Linux lifecycle management, system hardening (CIS), and observability integration.
Skilled in Ansible for patching and automation, with experience in Red Hat IPA/IdM and HashiCorp Vault for user management.
Experience with DevOps and system management tools (GitLab/AAP), Jira, Confluence, and Miro.
Fluent in English (C1 level).

Should-Have Skills

Knowledge of Ubuntu, LDAP, OIDC, OAUTH, PKI Certificates, VMware vSphere ESXi, vCenter, KVM (virtlib), NetApp, Ceph, Apache Webserver, Nginx, Git, PostgreSQL, GitLab, and PKI solutions.
German language proficiency (B2) is a plus.
