About the Opportunity
A well-established organisation within Regional Victoria's water sector is seeking a Payroll Officer with strong Chris21 capability to support a complex and highly regulated payroll environment.
This role suits someone who is confident working across enterprise agreements, unionised workforces, and operational rosters, with exposure to field-based teams typical of utilities.

Key Responsibilities
- End-to-end payroll processing using Chris21 payroll system
- Interpretation and application of EBAs, awards, and utility-specific conditions
- Manage payroll across diverse workforce groups, including:
- Field crews and operational staff
- Shift workers and on-call teams
- Corporate employees
- Process complex pay components:
- Overtime, penalties, allowances, loadings
- Backpay and adjustments
- Ensure compliance with:
- Fair Work legislation
- Superannuation, PAYG, and statutory obligations
- Perform payroll reconciliations, reporting, and audit preparation
- Partner with HR and Finance to resolve payroll queries and discrepancies
- Support continuous improvement of payroll processes and Chris21 system utilisation
Key Requirements
- Demonstrated experience using Chris21 in a medium to large organisation
- Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and compliance frameworks
- Experience within regional organisations, utilities, or government environments highly regarded
- Proven capability working with:
- Enterprise agreements and unionised workforces
- Complex rostering and pay conditions
- High attention to detail and strong analytical/reconciliation skills
- Ability to work autonomously in a regional setting
Desirable Experience
- Background in a water authority or essential services provider
- Exposure to payroll remediation, audits, or system upgrades
- Understanding of regional workforce dynamics (multi-site / depot-based teams)
