1. Overview

On behalf of our client, a well-established manufacturing group, we are seeking a Merchandising Director to act as the strategic and operational bridge between global customers and production plants. This role serves as the critical commercial interface between key customers and production operations, ensuring customer expectations are met while maintaining operational feasibility.

2. Key Responsibilities

Merchandising Leadership & Organization Planning

  • Partner with senior leadership to evolve the merchandising organization structure

  • Maintain a rolling three-year workforce and succession plan

  • Foster a high-engagement, accountability-driven team environment

Commercial Execution & Product Delivery

  • Interpret customer requirements to identify commercial opportunities

  • Lead product development initiation and merchandising execution

  • Provide accurate, data-backed insights on lead times, materials, and capacity to support order confirmation

Customer Relationship Management

  • Drive a strong customer-centric culture across the merchandising team

  • Expand and deepen relationships with existing strategic accounts

  • Ensure accuracy and ownership of technical, costing, and order-related information

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Enable effective collaboration across Merchandising, Sales, Sourcing, and Production

  • Review and optimize workflows between internal teams and external stakeholders

People Leadership & Performance Management

  • Translate business context into clear priorities and SMART performance goals

  • Coach and develop direct reports in leadership and functional capability

Succession & Talent Development

  • Assess high-potential talent at the next level

  • Establish mentoring and development pathways

  • Identify and prepare at least two potential successors per direct report

Candidate Profile

10+ years of leadership experience in Merchandising, Sales, or Customer Service 

Bachelors degree in Business, or Supply Chain (MBA preferred)

Proven track record managing demanding customers while aligning internal production stakeholders

Confident negotiator with the judgment to decline requests diplomatically when required

Composed and decisive during production disruptions or material delays

Comfortable working with data for capacity forecasting and commercial analysis

Fluent in English (business-level proficiency)
