Position Overview
The Senior Project Accountant will oversee project-level financials, ensuring accurate cost tracking, forecasting, and reporting. This role will act as the primary financial partner to project managers, providing insights to support decision-making, profitability, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in construction accounting and strong knowledge of Jonas Construction Software.
Key Responsibilities

Manage the financial aspects of multiple construction projects, including cost tracking, forecasting, and budget-to-actual analysis

Partner with project managers to monitor project profitability, timelines, and risk management

Prepare and review monthly project financial reports, work-in-progress (WIP) schedules, and variance analyses

Ensure compliance with contractual terms, change orders, and billing requirements

Process progress billings, lien waivers, and subcontractor payments in alignment with project agreements

Review, analyze, and reconcile job cost reports, ensuring accuracy and completeness

Assist in month-end and year-end close processes, including accruals and reconciliations

Mentor junior accounting staff and provide guidance on project accounting best practices

Support process improvements and contribute to system optimization initiatives
Qualifications

5+ years of progressive accounting experience within the construction industry

Strong proficiency with Jonas Construction Software (required)

Solid understanding of project-based accounting, job costing, and revenue recognition

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications

Excellent analytical skills with a keen eye for detail

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally with operations and finance teams

CPA designation (or in progress) considered an asset
