Overview
We are seeking a compassionate, experienced Director of Patient Care Services - Hospice to lead our hospice clinical operations. This role oversees all aspects of patient care delivery, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations while fostering a culture of compassion, excellence, and teamwork. The Director will guide an interdisciplinary team including nurses, social workers, chaplains, and aides to provide exceptional, patient-centered care that honors dignity, comfort, and quality of life during the end-of-life journey.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Excellence
- Oversee development and implementation of hospice care protocols to ensure quality, safety, and compliance.
- Coordinate interdisciplinary care plans to meet physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients and families.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with regulations and organizational standards.
Operational Leadership
- Direct daily operations for hospice services, ensuring efficiency and alignment with organizational goals.
- Manage the hospice budget, monitoring financial performance and implementing cost-effective strategies.
- Utilize the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) to drive accountability, clarity, and goal achievement.
Compliance & Quality
- Ensure adherence to Medicare Hospice Benefit Conditions of Participation, state regulations, and accreditation standards.
- Lead quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and operational performance.
- Proactively identify and mitigate risks to patients, staff, and the organization.
Team Leadership
- Recruit, train, and mentor clinical and support staff to maintain a highly skilled, motivated workforce.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching.
Community Engagement & Advocacy
- Represent hospice services in the community, building relationships with healthcare providers, referral partners, and community organizations.
- Advocate for patient rights and ensure patient voices are heard in care planning and delivery.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Management, or related field required; Masters degree preferred.
- Active RN license preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive leadership experience in hospice, palliative care, or healthcare operations.
- In-depth knowledge of CMS hospice regulations, state-specific compliance requirements, and accreditation standards.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and improve operational efficiency.
- Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with healthcare technology platforms and EHR systems.
Work Environment
- Based primarily in the Cleveland office with regional travel as needed.
