Job Overview

The Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) is responsible for the validation, inspection, calibration, repair and maintenance of medical/clinical equipment for completeness, mechanical and electrical safety while training others in the proper operation per regulatory standards. Due to the nature of the work, performs in a highly independent manner, working within the broad scope of established department policies, procedures and goals (e.g., Medical Equipment Management Plan SAF-002 - MEMP). Works closely with clinical staff and Materials Management personnel to obtain parts, supplies and equipment. Demonstrates meticulous documentation, analytic and problem-solving skills. Reports to the Biomedical Engineering Manager.


Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure all biomedical equipment is well maintained, properly configured, and safely functional.
  • Approve new biomedical equipment through testing and code compliance checks.
  • Install new biomedical equipment, including calibration and performance testing.
  • Complete preventive maintenance schedules for equipment.
  • Install, inspect, maintain, repair, and calibrate medical/clinical equipment and support systems.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff and Materials Management to obtain necessary parts and supplies.
  • Train staff in proper operation and care of equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records in the equipment database for repairs, calibrations, and maintenance.
  • Demonstrate strong documentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Required Qualifications

  • One year of experience
  • Associates Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology or Electronics preferred.
  • Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) - recommended.
  • Strong knowledge of validation, safety, calibration, and regulatory compliance for medical equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage a wide range of technical duties.
