Hourly Pay: $144.64 to $146.64
Contract Length: 6-month full-time contract, with eligibility for extension


Minimum Requirements

  • At least 12 months of direct patient care experience within the past 3 years in a public or private institution
  • Current clinical competencies
  • Valid government-issued photo identification (Drivers License or Passport)
  • Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
  • Valid California Psychologist license (hard copy required)

Job Responsibilities

  • Deliver psychological care under the supervision of the Senior Psychologist, Supervisor, or Chief of Mental Health
  • Maintain safety, order, and supervise the behavior of inmates or wards within the facility
  • Serve as clinician-of-the-day as needed, including on-call responsibilities for patient emergencies
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary staff to foster a professional and cooperative environment
  • Conduct comprehensive mental health evaluations including review of criminal, psychological, and substance use histories
  • Provide crisis intervention, group psychotherapy, and one-on-one interviews
  • Perform evaluations at cell fronts when necessary, which may involve climbing stairs and extended walking
  • Assess and diagnose psychiatric disorders using standardized psychological tests and interpret results
  • Develop detailed clinical reports, prognoses, and treatment plans aligned with current standards of care
  • Participate in and document Interdisciplinary Treatment Team (IOTT) meetings and inmate care activities
  • Track patient progress using SOAPE-formatted notes
  • Conduct mental status examinations through face-to-face assessments
  • Review prior medical and legal documentation to support accurate diagnosis and care planning
  • Establish partnerships with community organizations, agencies, and residential care providers
  • Educate inmates on mental health topics and support applications for benefits such as SSI
  • Assist with data collection and analysis to ensure compliance with mental health program standards
  • Share approved information with caregivers only with appropriate signed release
  • Foster therapeutic relationships with inmates, families, and caregivers to improve treatment outcomes
  • Represent the mental health department in both internal and external meetings or forums
  • Contribute ideas and support the development and implementation of new treatment and rehabilitation programs
