Shift: Day Shift | 6:00 AM - 6:30 PM (12-hour shifts, 0545-1800)
Job Description:
The Stepdown Registered Nurse (Cardiac Focus) is responsible for providing specialized nursing care to patients with cardiac conditions in a progressive care unit. This role involves monitoring and managing patients with conditions such as CP rule out, STEMI, NSTEMI, post-CABG, post-thoracotomy, post-peripheral vascular surgery/procedure, respiratory failure requiring BIPAP or Airvo, dysrhythmias, blood pressure abnormalities requiring IV intervention, CHF, sepsis, and more. The RN will also recover post-Cardiac Cath Lab patients and manage arterial sheaths. While pressors or IV infusions are not titrated on CVCU, the nurse will play a critical role in comprehensive patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate total nursing care for a diverse patient population, including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
- Monitor and manage patients with cardiac conditions and other critical illnesses.
- Recover post-Cardiac Cath Lab patients and ensure proper management of arterial sheaths.
- Collaborate with physicians, ancillary nursing staff, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality patient care.
- Provide IV interventions and monitoring for blood pressure abnormalities, dysrhythmias, and other conditions requiring specialized cardiac care.
- Maintain professional nursing standards and provide leadership in the clinical setting.
- Educate patients and their families on disease processes, treatment plans, and post-discharge care.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
Qualifications:
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Minimum of one year of experience in stepdown, progressive care, or a related cardiac unit preferred.
- BLS and ACLS certification required.
- Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and patient education skills.
Work Environment:
- Hospital-based stepdown or progressive care unit.
- Requires frequent standing, walking, and occasional lifting of patients and equipment.
- Rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, may be required.
