Position Title: Psychologist
Location: Correctional Facility in Represa, California
Pay Rate: $140.74 to $142.74 per hour
Schedule: Full-time, 6 to 9-month contract with potential for extension


Minimum Requirements

  • At least twelve months of direct patient care experience within the past three years in a public or private institution
  • Clinical competencies must be current
  • Valid government-issued photo identification (Drivers License or Passport)
  • Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
  • Valid California Psychologist license in hard copy format

Responsibilities

  • Provide psychological services to mentally ill inmates under the supervision of the Senior Psychologist, Supervisor, or Chief of Mental Health
  • Supervise and maintain order among inmates and ensure safety of individuals and property
  • Be available as clinician-of-the-day during scheduled workdays for emergency response
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary staff to support a cohesive work environment
  • Conduct initial mental health evaluations, reviewing criminal, psychological, and substance abuse history
  • Offer crisis intervention, individual counseling, group therapy, and face-to-face evaluations
  • Perform clinical evaluations in housing units, including at cell fronts when necessary
  • Recognize symptoms of psychiatric disorders and develop effective treatment plans
  • Administer and interpret psychological assessments appropriately
  • Prepare detailed clinical documentation including diagnoses, prognoses, and therapeutic goals
  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and consult on complex cases
  • Document all care and monitor progress using SOAPE-formatted notes
  • Complete mental status exams during face-to-face interviews
  • Review historical medical, legal, and institutional records to support diagnosis and planning
  • Build relationships with approved external programs and agencies to support continuity of care
  • Develop and deliver educational materials for mentally ill or sex offender inmates
  • Support inmates in accessing benefits such as SSI and other community-based services
  • Analyze audit data relevant to mental health program compliance
  • Submit documentation and attendance information for administrative data entry
  • Communicate with approved family members or caregivers after receiving signed release forms
  • Build therapeutic relationships to enhance treatment effectiveness
  • Represent the department in mental health forums and professional gatherings
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of new treatment and rehabilitation initiatives
