Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) - Nights
Location: Milan, NM
Schedule: 36 hours/week, night shifts; must have open availability including weekends and holidays
Contract Length: 13 weeks (with potential to extend)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week
Weekly Gross Pay: $1,664.00


Job Overview:

This is a full-time contract assignment in a correctional healthcare environment. The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct and supervisory nursing care for incarcerated individuals, ensuring safe, effective, and compassionate treatment within a secure facility. The role requires strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and a commitment to maintaining both patient care standards and correctional security.


Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care in accordance with state licensure and correctional healthcare policies.
  • Assist providers during examinations, treatments, and sick call visits.
  • Dispense, administer, and document medication distribution, including pill call.
  • Perform patient assessments, triage illnesses and injuries, and coordinate referrals to higher-level care when necessary.
  • Supervise and support LVN/LPN staff and unlicensed medical personnel.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential medical records in compliance with standards.
  • Monitor inmate hospitalizations and assist with early releases as directed.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and perform rescue functions in crises or disasters.
  • Conduct safety checks of medical units and secure medical supplies.
  • Provide health counseling and education to inmates/residents as required.


Requirements:

  • Must reside more than 70 miles from the facility (no local applicants).
  • Minimum 1 year of recent RN experience.
  • Active, unrestricted New Mexico RN license.
  • Active BLS certification (AHA preferred).
  • Must be able to start within 2 weeks of offer.
  • Open availability; no RTO or scheduling restrictions allowed.
  • Must not have worked at the same facility in the past 6 months.
  • Must not be on any industry DNU list.
  • U.S. Citizenship and Social Security card required for facility clearance.


Preferred:

  • Prior correctional or behavioral health nursing experience.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in high-stress, secure environments.
