Job Overview:
The Field Trainer provides hands-on training and development for frontline staff in Sterile Processing (SPD), Endoscopy (ENDO) Reprocessing, and Operating Room (OR) environments across assigned hospital accounts in New York City. This role focuses on in-the-field, side-by-side training to ensure staff competency, adherence to compliance standards, and confidence in daily operations. The trainer partners with leadership and staff to address skill gaps, support onboarding, and promote safe, efficient surgical care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver on-the-job training for SPD, ENDO, and OR staff, including new hire orientation and skills refreshers
- Demonstrate and reinforce best practices in decontamination, assembly, sterilization, case preparation, instrumentation handling, and surgical setup
- Provide real-time observation, coaching, and corrective feedback
- Ensure compliance with all policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Support staff preparing for CRCST and other certifications
- Collaborate with directors, managers, and supervisors to identify training needs and resolve competency gaps
- Assist with onboarding during new site implementations and expansions
- Facilitate in-service training on equipment, working with manufacturers as needed
- Maintain training records, competency checklists, and provide leadership with progress reports
Required Qualifications:
- CRCST certification
- 3+ years of sterile processing experience with exposure to endoscopy and/or operating room environments
- Strong knowledge of sterile processing standards, instrumentation, and OR protocols
- Excellent communication and coaching skills
- Ability to work in high-paced, procedural hospital environments
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Flexibility to travel to multiple NYC hospital sites and work evenings/weekends as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
- CST certification (preferred)
- CER certification or willingness to obtain
- Prior experience as a trainer, mentor, or coach
- Knowledge of OR video tower components
- Familiarity with AAMI, IAHCSMM, and Joint Commission standards
