Job Summary:

We are hiring a skilled and reliable Out-Patient Medical Coder to ensure accurate and compliant coding of outpatient medical records. This role involves reviewing clinical documentation and applying appropriate CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM codes across a variety of outpatient settings and specialties. The successful candidate will demonstrate solid coding expertise, a strong understanding of outpatient billing guidelines, and the ability to work across diverse clinical documentation sources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review outpatient medical records and documentation to assign accurate CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM codes.
  • Ensure coding meets official guidelines, payer-specific rules, and client documentation standards.
  • Identify documentation gaps or discrepancies and coordinate with internal teams for clarification when needed.
  • Maintain coding accuracy and productivity benchmarks based on organizational expectations.
  • Stay updated on the latest outpatient coding standards, payer regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Participate in regular audits, quality assurance processes, and training sessions.
  • Use electronic health records (EHR) systems and coding platforms efficiently while maintaining confidentiality and data security.

Qualifications:

  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Health Information Management, Nursing, or related field preferred.
  • Active certification required: CPC (Certified Professional Coder), COC (Certified Outpatient Coder), or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of outpatient coding experience, preferably across multiple specialties or facility types.
  • Proficiency in CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM coding systems.
  • Familiarity with outpatient billing processes, modifiers, and payer-specific coding requirements.
  • Experience using EHR systems and encoder software (e.g., 3M, Optum).
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and data privacy standards.
