Position: Title Vice President, Philippine Labor, Employment & Benefits Counsel

Location: Cebu

Summary

Provide counsel, guidance, support and training to Synchrony with

regard to the legal relationship between employers and employees,

beginning with the recruitment and hiring process and expanding into

every facet of daily operations, including hiring, pay, promotion,

performance evaluation, discipline, termination, benefits, as well as the

successful resolution of disputes and handling of labor litigation.

Qualifications

  • LL.B./Juris Doctor and member in good standing of the Philippine Bar.
  • At least 5 years of experience in labor, employment and benefits law.
  • Substantial experience working in different cultures and an open and tolerant mind with respect to diversity.
  • Demonstrated experience with multi-national companies and associated legal issues.
  • A strong commitment to integrity and professionalism and comfort acting as an agent of change.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English, communication skills in Cebuano a plus.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality work under pressure of deadlines.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret issues and proactively and concisely advise the business accordingly.
  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization.

Desired Competencies

  • Superior advocacy skills, including the ability to communicate in writing and orally effectively and efficiently; an aptitude for practical negotiation; the capability to think clearly and quickly under pressure, and the composure to satisfy multiple and often competing interests.
  • Some knowledge of US Consumer Finance industry
  • Experience in a BPO/call center
  • Superior negotiation skills and ability to work in complex international environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide business-oriented and practical counsel and guidance to human
  • resources and management regarding compliance with relevant labor and
  • employment laws as well as strategies for risk mitigation
  • Manage and/or handle employment litigation/threat of litigation
  • Direct and interface with outside counsel as needed; act as Supplier
  • Manager for legal vendors as appropriate
  • Negotiate settlement of employment related disputes and claims

Job Description

Draft, review and/or approve employment-related documents, such as

employment contracts, settlement agreements, policies, procedures, and

employee communications

Develop and deliver training on relevant topics

Provide legal leadership and strategic legal advice to the business

regarding relevant labor, employment and benefits issues, including

evolving laws, regulations and/or practices and the changing governance

environment

Analyze and identify evolving legal risks and potential mitigants to support

various business activities, including labor law practices, internal human

resources processes and engagement initiatives

Review and provide legal guidance and support to Notice to Explain,

Notice of Decision and other disciplinary processes

Ensure compliance with labor and employment regulatory and reportorial

requirements

Support compliance processes, including investigating employee/business

concerns, and supervising/reviewing investigations and reports

Support and contribute to human resource goals and initiatives

Support Vice President, Philippines Legal and Compliance Counsel and the

business on various issues across platforms and functions as needed on an

ad hoc basis

Support and assist Chief Counsel Labor, Employment & Benefits

Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned
