Our client is seeking a highly motivated and commercially minded Junior Commodity Trader to join their growing commodities team. This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with experience in commodity markets who is looking to develop their career while working alongside an experienced Senior Trader in the energy and mineral commodities sector.
The successful candidate will provide commercial, operational and analytical support across the full trading cycle, assisting with trade execution, market intelligence, reporting, financial analysis and customer relationship management.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Senior Trader with the purchase and sale of energy and mineral commodities, including coal and manganese.
- Monitor commodity markets, pricing, freight movements and industry developments, preparing accurate daily market reports.
- Track daily production, stock movements, dispatches and receipts across multiple delivery points.
- Assist with trade execution, contract administration, trade reconciliations and maintaining the digital contract register.
- Support the preparation of tender submissions, commercial proposals and market research for new business opportunities.
- Assist with sales margin analysis, stock valuation and cost tracking.
- Maintain accurate CRM records, customer interactions, pricing history and transaction data.
- Prepare reports and analysis to support commercial decision-making and strategic planning.
- Ensure accurate record keeping and compliance with company procedures.
- Travel to mining operations and client meetings when required.
Requirements
- 2-3 years' experience within commodity trading, commodity markets or a similar commercial environment.
- Relevant qualification in Business, Accounting, Logistics, Finance, Economics or a related field.
- Strong analytical ability with excellent commercial awareness and attention to detail.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are essential.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
- Professional, ethical and proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Willingness to travel on short notice when required.
