Overview

Our client, a leading mining operation in the Northern Cape, is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager (Mining) to lead the maintenance, reliability, and lifecycle management of a large fleet of mining equipment and associated assets.

This senior leadership role is responsible for maximising equipment availability, ensuring statutory compliance, driving engineering excellence, and leading multidisciplinary engineering and maintenance teams to support safe and efficient mining operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering and maintenance function across the mining equipment fleet and associated assets.
  • Develop and implement preventative, predictive, and reliability-centred maintenance strategies.
  • Drive equipment availability, reliability, and operational efficiency while minimising downtime and maintenance costs.
  • Oversee maintenance planning, scheduling, and execution across mobile equipment and relevant plant assets.
  • Manage engineering budgets, cost control initiatives, and capital expenditure projects.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable mining legislation, engineering standards, and company policies.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment performance, productivity, and asset optimisation.
  • Manage relationships with OEMs, contractors, and external service providers.
  • Monitor equipment performance through KPIs, maintenance reporting, and root cause analysis.
  • Develop, mentor, and lead engineering, supervisory, and maintenance teams.
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture across all engineering activities.
  • Ensure statutory inspections, audits, and legal appointments are maintained and compliant.
  • Collaborate closely with operational and executive leadership teams to achieve business objectives.

Minimum Requirements

  • Relevant experience, National Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • GCC Mines & Works (Mechanical or Electrical)
  • Minimum 10 years of engineering experience within the mining sector.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a senior engineering or maintenance management role.
  • Proven experience managing heavy mining equipment and mobile fleets.
  • Strong understanding of asset management, maintenance planning, and reliability engineering principles.
  • Experience managing engineering budgets, capital projects, and resource allocation.
  • Sound knowledge of mining legislation, engineering compliance, and safety standards.
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Willingness to reside in or relocate to the Northern Cape, where applicable.

Additional requirements from our side would include:

  • Leadership experience managing a team of at least 8+ direct reports.
  • Regular engagement with senior leadership and executive management teams.
  • Proven stakeholder management and communication skills at management and executive level.
  • Strong people leadership, coaching, and team development experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Outlook and Excel.
  • Experience working with ERP and digital asset management systems.
  • Ability to generate operational, maintenance, and performance reports for teams, management, and stakeholders.
  • Strong KPI reporting capability, including the creation of dashboards, management reports, and performance documents for leadership and stakeholder review.
