About the job Staff Architect - Build & Release Engineer (CI/CD Pipelines)

Staff / Architect Build and Release Engineer

Department: Engineering DevOps

Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Overview

We are seeking a Staff or Architect-level Build and Release Engineer to join our Engineering team. In this strategic role, you will design, implement, and maintain scalable build and release pipelines across multiple product domains including cloud services, mobile applications, and firmware for connected devices. You will play a critical role in ensuring development workflows are efficient, secure, and reliable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Harness, BuildKite, and similar tools to ensure high throughput, traceability, and reliability across environments.

  • Develop and enforce effective branching strategies across multiple codebases, advocating for the right paradigm (trunk-based development, GitFlow, feature branches) based on team size, release cadence, and product type.

  • Collaborate with firmware, mobile, and cloud development teams to establish consistent build and deployment practices.

  • Drive improvements in build tooling, artifact management, and automated testing integration.

  • Partner with QA, Product, and Release Management teams to support smooth release cycles and rollback strategies.

  • Establish metrics and dashboards to track build health, deployment success rates, and release velocity.

  • Coach engineering teams on Git best practices and version control workflows.

  • Stay ahead of trends in DevOps, continuous delivery, and infrastructure-as-code, adopting best-in-class practices.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years in Build/Release/DevOps engineering roles, including at least 2 years at a Staff or Architect level.

  • Expert-level knowledge of Git and distributed version control systems, with the ability to explain the rationale behind different branching strategies.

  • Hands-on experience with Harness for pipeline orchestration, secrets management, and deployment automation.

  • Proven ability to design and scale CI/CD pipelines for cloud services (AWS preferred), mobile apps (iOS/Android), and embedded firmware.

  • Strong scripting and automation skills in Python, Bash, Groovy, or YAML.

  • Deep understanding of containerization (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), and infrastructure-as-code frameworks like Terraform or CloudFormation.

  • Familiarity with mobile build systems (Xcode, Gradle), OTA firmware release processes, and cloud-native deployment patterns.

  • Solid grasp of security best practices in build and release workflows.

Preferred Qualifications

  • AWS Certifications (e.g., DevOps Engineer, Solutions Architect).

  • Experience with artifact repositories (e.g., Artifactory), code signing, and vulnerability scanning.

  • Previous experience in a consumer IoT or smart home company.
