Database Engineer (DE3)

Location: Annapolis Junction | On-Site

About the Role

We are seeking a senior-level Database Engineer (DE3) to provide technical leadership in the architecture, design, and deployment of mission-critical database solutions supporting large-scale national security systems. This role focuses on building secure, high-performance, and scalable data platforms aligned with enterprise architecture standards.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in relational and object-oriented databases, data modeling, cloud-based storage technologies, and complex data flow environments, with a strong emphasis on performance optimization, security, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure reliability, availability, and security of databases across operational environments
  • Manage database users, roles, privileges, and access controls
  • Develop and enforce database governance, procedures, and security standards
  • Perform performance tuning, indexing, and proactive system monitoring
  • Execute backup, restoration, and disaster recovery planning and testing
  • Evaluate and recommend database tools and technologies to improve performance and resiliency
  • Support data modeling, schema design, and prototyping activities
  • Coordinate database architecture changes with Database Engineers
  • Install, configure, patch, and maintain DBMS platforms and database structures
  • Lead optimization, restructuring, and data reload operations
  • Ensure compliance with DoD, Intelligence Community, and government data management standards

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience as a Database Engineer on systems of comparable scope and complexity
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline
  • Five (5) additional years of Database Engineering experience may substitute for a degree
  • Strong background designing and managing relational and object-oriented databases
  • Expertise in database architecture, data modeling, and query performance tuning
  • Experience integrating cloud-based database technologies and ODBC connectivity
  • Solid understanding of data security, retention policies, access controls, and domain management
  • Proven ability to manage performance, scalability, and security in distributed, multi-user environments

Additional Requirements

  • DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level II certification (Required)

  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience with PostgreSQL

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB, and NoSQL platforms
  • Background in system integration, database migration, or data flow performance optimization
  • Familiarity with containerized environments such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Strong analytical, communication, and technical documentation skills

Salary Range

$175,000 – $190,000 (USD)
