Cloud Software Engineer - CSWE2

Location: Annapolis Junction, MD | On-Site 
Clearance Requirement: ACTIVE TS/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph (Required)

We are seeking experienced Cloud Software Engineers to design, build, and enhance large-scale Big Data cloud systems supporting mission-critical government operations. These roles span the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, architecture design, development, testing, deployment, and performance optimization within a secure environment.

The ideal candidates bring deep expertise in cloud computing, distributed systems, and the Hadoop ecosystem, developing back-end processing, analytics, and information retrieval capabilities that support high-volume, high-velocity data access.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain Big Data cloud software supporting distributed processing and analytics
  • Implement and optimize MapReduce workflows, BigTable interactions, and distributed file systems
  • Apply cloud-based information retrieval and data analysis techniques
  • Develop scalable Java applications integrated with distributed coordination frameworks
  • Support software lifecycle activities including development, testing, integration, and sustainment
  • Contribute to system architecture decisions, trade-off analysis, and COTS/GOTS integration
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and profile distributed systems to improve performance and reliability
  • Recommend improvements to software documentation, tools, and development processes

Required Qualifications 

  • Possess 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years supporting Big Data cloud or distributed computing systems
  • Hold a Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline
  • Substitute a Masters degree for up to two (2) years of required experience
  • Substitute four (4) years of relevant cloud software experience in lieu of a degree
  • Substitute one (1) year of cloud experience with a Cloudera Hadoop Developer certification
  • Demonstrate 2+ years of experience supporting cloud or distributed information retrieval systems
  • Demonstrate at least one (1) year of experience with Cloud BigTable implementations
  • Demonstrate at least one (1) year of experience with distributed file systems such as HDFS
  • Demonstrate at least one (1) year of experience with complex MapReduce analytics
  • Demonstrate at least one (1) year of experience with distributed coordination frameworks

Technical Expertise

  • Programming and Frameworks: Java, J2EE, Spring MVC, RESTful APIs, Eclipse, Maven, concurrent programming
  • Distributed Systems and Cloud: Hadoop, YARN, Zookeeper, HDFS, HBase, JMS
  • Data Technologies: Apache Lucene, Solr, MongoDB, MapReduce, Avro, JSON, XML, CSV, Sequence and Map files
  • Operating Systems: Linux (Red Hat, CentOS)
  • Virtualization and Cloud Platforms: VMware, VirtualBox, cloud infrastructure, utility computing, multi-node management
  • Security: PKI, firewalls, authentication mechanisms, information assurance compliance
  • Configuration Management: Subversion, ClearQuest, Razor
  • Debugging and Performance: JVM tuning, memory management, Java profiling, performance optimization

Salary Range


$190,000 – $220,000 (USD)
