Flatbed CDL-A Driver – Regional Steel Freight – $1,500–$2,000 Weekly

Drivers based around Temple, TX operate regional flatbed runs across five surrounding states (TX, LA, AR, OK, NM) hauling flat steel, pipe, and coils, with most drivers running 2,300–2,800 miles per week and earning $1,500–$2,000 weekly.

This regional flatbed position offers strong earning potential through percentage pay and additional driver incentives.

Earnings

• Drivers are paid 27% of every load (roughly equivalent to around $0.70 CPM)
• $40 tarp pay for loads requiring tarping
• $16/hour detention pay after 2 hours
• $50 layover pay after 24 hours
• $300 weekly non-taxed per diem program available
• Additional safety and clean inspection bonuses

In addition to regular pay, new drivers may qualify for the following sign-on incentive.

Sign-On Incentive

Total sign-on bonus: $5,000

• $1,500 issued on first paycheck
• $1,500 after 6 months of employment
• $2,000 after 1 year

Home Time

Most drivers in this regional flatbed position are home Friday night or early Saturday morning, allowing time for a 34 to 48 hour reset before the next work week.

For drivers who prefer to remain on the road longer, dispatch can often provide additional miles and freight opportunities, which can lead to higher weekly pay.

Freight & Equipment

Drivers haul steel, pipe, and coil freight on flatbed trailers across regional lanes.

About 40% of loads require tarping, while the remaining freight typically requires standard flatbed securement.

Equipment includes 2022+ Kenworth T680 trucks that are fully assigned to drivers, with the ability to take the truck home between runs.

Each trailer is equipped with the required securement gear including chains, straps, and coil racks.

Minimum Driver Requirements

To qualify for this regional flatbed position, drivers should meet the following criteria.

• Must be 22 years of age or older
• At least 12 months of verifiable flatbed experience within the past 5 years
• Prior experience securing steel, pipe, or coil freight (coil experience preferred)
• Knowledge of flatbed securement including straps, chains, binders, and tarps (40–50% of loads require tarping)
• No DUI/DWI within the past 5 years and no Clearinghouse violations
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen
• Clean MVR is preferred
