Job description

We are looking for a Deep Tech Consultant to strengthen our European Programmes Business Unit.

We are looking for motivated professionals who combine strong digital technology expertise with excellent analytical and writing skills, and who are excited about working at the intersection of innovation, technology, and public funding.

As a consultant at Nordic Innovators, you will work with innovative companies, scale-ups, and research organisations across Europe to secure funding for ambitious R&D and innovation projects focused on developing advanced digital technologies, such as:

  • Advanced Materials
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Quantum Computing

These technologies are increasingly critical across strategic European sectors, including:

  • ICT
  • Defence
  • Security
  • Space

You will play a central role in structuring and leading the development of competitive funding proposals for European programmes such as:

  • Horizon Europe (Clusters 3 & 4, European Innovation Council (EIC), European Defence Fund)
  • Digital Europe
  • Eureka Eurostars

You will combine technical understanding, strategic thinking, and structured proposal development to transform innovative ideas into compelling funding proposals aligned with European policy priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead or contribute to the development of high-quality European R&D funding proposals, from early concept development to final submission.
  • Translate complex technological innovations into clear, structured proposals aligned with EU evaluation criteria.
  • Work directly with innovative companies, start-ups, and research organisations to understand their technologies and R&D ambitions, with a focus on service and quality.
  • Advise clients on funding strategies, programme selection, and project positioning.
  • Facilitate workshops and meetings to define project concepts and gather proposal inputs.
  • Coordinate proposal development across multiple stakeholders including clients, consortium partners, and internal teams.
  • Ensure alignment of technical contributions, timely delivery of inputs, and overall proposal quality.
  • Stay up to date with the latest trends and developments in innovation, funding opportunities, and your areas of expertise.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of proposal methodologies and best practices.
  • Share knowledge on digital technologies and EU funding opportunities within the team.
  • Contribute to Nordic Innovators as a whole.

Candidate requirements

  • MSc or PhD in Physics, or related Deep Tech technology fields.
  • Experience writing or contributing to European R&D funding proposals (e.g., Horizon Europe, EIC, European Defence Fund, Digital Europe, Eureka Eurostars).
  • Understanding of the frameworks and procedures of European funding programmes.
  • Fluency in English (C1 minimum).
  • Work permit in Spain or Portugal.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking, with the ability to quickly understand complex technologies.
  • Excellent technical writing and structuring skills, translating innovation into compelling proposals.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and deadlines in a consulting environment.
  • A team player who contributes to the existing positive working environment.
  • Excellent people and communication skills to build a positive connection and to communicate professionally with clients, co-workers, and project partners.
  • Experience working with deep-tech SMEs, scale-ups, or research organisations.
  • Interest or experience in defence, security, or space technology ecosystems.
  • Experience working independently with limited supervision and being proactive.
