My client is an early-stage B2B fintech/AI startup in San Francisco that has raised $7M and is building the revenue infrastructure that the next generation of B2B companies will run on. They have 75 people, a team of 7 engineers, and a clear mandate: double the engineering team and scale revenue 10x. This is a direct partnership with the founder/CEO, with full ownership of the technical roadmap from day one.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Building and scaling an engineering team from 7 to 15+ people, owning hiring, culture, and the bar for technical excellence
  • Defining the technical architecture and data model decisions that will support long-term scalability in a complex B2B product
  • Providing hands-on tactical coaching to ICs, conducting PR reviews, and unblocking the team on hard technical problems
  • Partnering directly with the CEO, product, and GTM teams to ship high-quality products and customer implementations on tight timelines
  • Leading the charge in building an AI-first engineering organization, embracing AI tools and workflows as a multiplier across the team
  • Representing engineering clearly to non-technical stakeholders, including the occasional investor or customer conversation

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 3+ years of recent hands-on people management experience leading individual contributor engineers (not solely managing other managers)
  • A track record at one or more VC-backed B2B SaaS startups, with a genuine understanding of what resource constraints, fast timelines, and product trade-offs feel like
  • Demonstrated ability to scale an engineering team through a company growth stage, with specific examples of hiring, team structure, and culture decisions you owned
  • Strong architecture and system design instincts, with experience making decisions that balance shipping speed against long-term scalability
  • Fluency with a modern full-stack, product-oriented tech environment (TypeScript, React, Postgres or equivalent)
  • Clear, structured communication, able to present technical decisions to non-technical audiences

  • Experience in sales tech, deal management, quote-to-cash, or revenue operations
  • Founder background or early engineer experience at a startup (0 to 1)
  • STEM degree or equivalent practical foundation in computer science
