About the job Legal Assistant
The Litigation Secretary shall possess a minimum of two years' experience as a secretary
in a law firm practicing Litigation/Labor & Employment. Will assist attorneys and
paralegals through the performance of complex secretarial and clerical duties requiring
knowledge of legal terminology and the legal process. Requires excellent clerical skills
and knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation. Shall be proficient in the use of
MS Office and knowledgeable in other related software, including but not limited to:
iManage, Best Authority, Adobe, LawTime, etc.
Must have complete knowledge of court rules in state, federal, and appellate courts in
connection with filing of various pleading documents. Must also be familiar with filing and
serving document time constraints for both federal and state courts.
Reporting Relationship
Reports and is responsible to assigned partner(s)/attorney(s); Director of Human
Resources Manager and the Managing Partner.
Duties/Responsibilities
Draft letters, discovery response and pleading shells. Edit legal documents, reports, in
prescribed forms, expanding or editing to produce form of composition. Proficient
knowledge of creating Table of Contents and Table of Authorities.
Performs numerous office tasks involving word processing, answering the telephone,
screening calls; schedules appointments; client contact, obtaining and relaying
information and messages, answering routine matters on own initiative, arranges
deposition and court reporters; court calls.
Other tasks: files records, legal documents, correspondence and other items. Various
administrative tasks including scanning, faxing and copying documents. Creating hearing
binders and assist with trial preparation; types timesheets for accounting purposes.
