Position Overview
As a Fitter and Turner (Machinist), you will be responsible for the manufacture, assembly, maintenance, and repair of mechanical components, machinery, and equipment. This role is essential across manufacturing, construction, engineering, and repair industries, ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and performance of metal components and industrial systems.

Key Responsibilities
- Precision Machining: Operate and maintain machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drill presses to produce high‑accuracy metal parts.
- Maintenance & Repair: Diagnose faults, perform routine maintenance, and carry out mechanical repairs to minimise downtime and prevent equipment failures.
- Technical Interpretation: Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine machining dimensions, tolerances, and assembly requirements.
- Assembly & Installation: Assemble, align, and install mechanical components including shafts, bearings, couplings, and gear systems. Perform on‑site installation when required.
- Welding & Fabrication: Carry out basic welding (MIG, TIG, or arc) and light fabrication tasks to support fitting and repair operations.
- Quality Control: Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, vernier calipers, and dial gauges to verify accuracy and ensure components meet design specifications.

Qualifications & Skills
- Certification: Recognised trade qualification in fitting and/or turning, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience: Minimum of three (3) years hands‑on experience in fitting, turning, and machining within industrial or engineering environments.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of machining processes, mechanical assembly, and precision measurement techniques.
- Safety Commitment: Demonstrated adherence to health and safety standards and ability to maintain a clean, organised workspace.
- Soft Skills: Strong problem‑solving ability, high attention to detail, and effective communication skills for team coordination.
- Additional Requirements: Valid drivers licence and physical fitness for heavy lifting and extended periods of standing.
