About the job Warehouse Foreman
Navarro Pecan Company (Navarro) is searching for an experienced Receiving & Shipping Foreman to lead the warehouse floor and deliver daily results. This is a hands-on, on-the-floor leadership role responsible for directing dock/warehouse employees, keeping product moving safely and accurately, and ensuring we hit daily KPIs. Youll respond to unplanned events, make quick, sound decisions, train and coach the team, and jump in to keep production and shipments on track—very similar in responsibility and problem-solving expectations to our lead roles on the production floor.
Navarro has been a leader in shelled pecans since 1977 and has made major investments to modernize and automate operations while maintaining SQF certification and strong food safety culture.
What you'll do
Floor leadership and daily execution
- Run the warehouse floor day-to-day: assign labor, set priorities, and actively manage the flow of receiving, staging, replenishment, and shipping.
- Own the daily KPI scoreboard: drive performance through visibility, urgency, and coaching—not paperwork from an office.
- Lead from the front: work alongside the team when needed (forklift, staging, loading/unloading, line support) to protect throughput and service levels.
- Coverage and coordination: adjust staffing for absences, surges, or last-minute schedule changes to keep the dock running.
Receiving operations (inbound pecans + materials)
- Inbound accuracy: verify counts, condition, lot codes, and documentation; ensure proper labeling, traceability, and staging.
- Put-away and flow: keep docks clear, prioritize hot items, and maintain clean staging lanes to prevent bottlenecks.
- Vendor/driver professionalism: maintain a firm, respectful dock culture—safe, efficient, and always audit-ready.
Shipping operations (outbound customer orders)
- Ship it right the first time: oversee picking/staging/loading to ensure correct product, lot, quantity, packaging, and paperwork.
- On-time performance: manage cutoffs, trailer planning, and dock sequencing to consistently meet shipping targets.
- Damage prevention: drive proper pallet builds, wrap standards, and loading practices to protect product quality.
Problem-solving, urgency, and recovery
- Be the calm in the chaos: troubleshoot issues in real time—missed picks, equipment downtime, staffing gaps, inventory discrepancies—and restore flow fast.
- Remove obstacles: coordinate with Production, QA, Maintenance, and Planning to prevent small problems from becoming big ones.
Safety, food safety, and compliance
- Safety first, always: enforce PPE, forklift/pedestrian rules, dock safety, and safe lifting/stacking practices.
- Food safety mindset: maintain GMPs, cleanliness, allergen awareness, and traceability expectations consistent with SQF and regulatory requirements.
Training, coaching, and accountability
- Train and develop: onboard new hires, certify tasks, cross-train key roles, and level up the team through coaching.
- Set the standard: build a high-expectation culture—clear direction, respectful communication, and consistent follow-through.
- Employee relations: address performance, attendance, and conflicts promptly and fairly.
Communication and reporting
- Shift handoffs: communicate what matters—priorities, risks, shortages, trailer status, and action items for the next shift.
- Operational discipline: maintain logs for shipments, receiving exceptions, quality holds, safety observations, and labor notes.
