Job Summary
Join a high-impact team as a Senior Ruby on Rails Developer and take technical ownership of a mature, data-rich platform used in the K–12 education space. This is a unique opportunity to step into a lead role during a critical growth phase and directly shape the future of the system’s stability and scalability.
Job Responsibilities
- Assume technical ownership of the platform following the departure of a long-tenured lead engineer
- Partner closely with product leadership to translate strategy into technical designs and executable backlog
- Act as a hands-on senior engineer: developing features, guiding others, and reviewing code
- Serve as the final escalation point for complex production and data-related issues during peak usage periods
- Troubleshoot live customer data issues and platform behavior across integrated systems
- Collaborate with data science teams to integrate and support new AI models
- Extract institutional knowledge and gradually systematize platform support processes
- After initial stabilization, help train and enable a nearshore support engineering team
Job Requirements
- Great English proficiency (B2+ Written and spoken)
- 5+ years of deep experience with Ruby on Rails in large, long-lived codebases
- Impeccable punctuality (schedules are flexible but being in time for meetings is crucial
- Strong debugging and reverse-engineering skills in complex, data-heavy systems
- Experience mentoring engineers and transferring domain knowledge
- Ability to balance short-term support needs with longer-term platform health
- The platform is a Ruby on Rails monolith with JSON and GraphQL APIs supporting React TypeScript front ends. It ingests and normalizes data from K–12 school information systems and generates analytical insights using proprietary AI models. A core component includes a highly complex schedule-building system with bidirectional data synchronization, which is actively supported for existing customers.
Nice to have
- Experience with nearshore or offshore engineering collaboration
- Prior work in the EdTech sector or with K–12 data systems
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time consultancy, with up to 40 weekly hours during regular business times. We operate under a flexible core hours policy to accommodate various schedules, allowing consultants to perform during their peak productivity times. Additionally, we offer the flexibility to work remotely.
