About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-focused Payroll Officer to join our team. This role requires at least 4 years of payroll experience, ideally within the Australian construction or utilities sector, and a strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation, EBAs, and modern awards. You will be responsible for managing the full payroll process, compliance reporting, and responding to payroll-related queries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process end-to-end payroll for weekly/fortnightly pay cycles
  • Perform monthly payroll tax calculations and reporting
  • Conduct quarterly long service leave calculations and reporting (LeavePlus)
  • Complete monthly income protection calculations and submit reports (Chifley)
  • Submit accurate and timely payroll reports and documentation to the accountant
  • Interpret and apply EBAs, modern awards, and National Employment Standards (NES)
  • Ensure timely completion and submission of Workcover forms and other required documentation
  • Assist in resolving payroll-related queries from employees and management
  • Maintain the confidentiality and security of payroll data at all times
  • Collaborate with HR and finance teams for seamless payroll integration and reporting
  • Stay up-to-date with Fair Work regulations and changes in Australian payroll legislation
  • Recommend improvements to enhance payroll processes and efficiency

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Minimum 4 years experience in a payroll position (essential)
  • Preferably familiar with the Australian payroll process, legislation, and compliance standards
  • Sound understanding of EBAs, modern awards, NES, and Fair Work regulations
  • Experience interpreting Awards/EBAs and managing complex payroll scenarios
  • Proficient in MYOB Advanced, Xero, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Word)
  • Excellent attention to detail, with a high level of accuracy in processing and reporting
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate payroll matters clearly
  • Previous experience in Construction or Utility (water) industries is preferred
  • Knowledge of LeavePlus and Chifley systems is a plus
