About the job Senior Art Director/ Creative Group Head
We are seeking a highly conceptual, visionary Creative Group Head (Art Director) to lead the creative output for one of our retail lifestyle brands. This pivotal role calls for an inspiring creative leader who thrives on bold ideas, integrated thinking, and pushing craft to world-class standards. You'll balance strategic creative communication with hands-on executional rollout. Partnering closely with a Copywriter Group Head, and working alongside strategy, account management, and production, you will deliver integrated retail campaigns that resonate deeply with consumers, build cultural relevance, and drive brand growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Creative Leadership (Conceptual & Executional Oversight):
- Lead the art direction and visual identity for our key retail lifestyle brands across all platforms, including ATL, digital, social, experiential, and shopper platforms.
- Oversee the entire creative process from initial concept development through to detailed execution and final asset rollout, ensuring consistently high-quality craft, visual consistency, and adherence to brand guidelines relevant to the retail client's needs.
- Inspire, mentor, and actively develop junior and mid-level art directors and designers within the team, fostering a culture of creative excellence and continuous learning, both in conceptualization and meticulous execution.
- Conceptual Excellence - Strategic Communication:
- Generate bold, innovative, and strategically sound creative ideas that successfully balance artistic vision with specific business objectives for our retail clients.
- Translate complex brand strategies and consumer insights into breakthrough creative concepts and compelling visual narratives that are impactful and memorable for the retail audience.
- Champion work that cuts through cultural noise, builds brand fame, and earns widespread talkability and engagement, establishing strategic communication platforms.
- Executional Rollout & Craft:
- Provide hands-on direction and contribute to the design and visual execution of key campaign assets, ensuring all elements are crafted to the highest standards across various media for retail use.
- Oversee the adaptation and rollout of core campaign ideas into a multitude of formats and platforms, maintaining creative integrity and brand consistency across the retail client's ecosystem.
- Ensure all final creative deliverables are meticulously prepared for production, meeting technical specifications and quality benchmarks for retail implementation
- Collaboration & Teamwork:
- Work hand-in-hand and in true partnership with your Copywriter Group Head counterpart to deliver fully integrated and compelling creative solutions.
- Partner effectively with strategy and account teams to ensure all creative solutions are insight-led, client-focused, and aligned with overall campaign goals for our retail clients.
- Collaborate closely with production teams and external partners (photographers, videographers, illustrators, etc.) to bring ideas to life at the highest possible standard of execution, from initial concept to final production, considering retail requirements.
- Client Engagement:
- Present creative ideas, concepts, and campaigns with confidence, clarity, and persuasive storytelling to clients.
- Build strong, trusted relationships with clients by demonstrating a deep understanding of their business, brand ambition, market challenges, and the specific nuances of the lifestyle retail sector.
- Act as a valued creative partner, guiding clients toward brave, innovative, and highly effective solutions that deliver measurable results, demonstrating both strategic thinking and a clear path to execution in a retail context.
Skills & Experience
- 8+ years of progressive experience in an Art Director role, with a significant portion spent within a leading creative agency environment.
- A proven track record of producing outstanding, award-winning integrated campaigns across various channels, demonstrating both strong conceptual thinking and executional excellence, especially for retail clients.
- Extensive retail/lifestyle category experience is highly advantageous, specifically within the home lifestyle, fashion, or FMCG clients, working directly with retail brands.
- Exceptional design and art direction skills, with a strong, diverse portfolio showcasing craft, originality, versatility, and a keen eye for visual trends, as well as the ability to execute high-quality assets for retail application.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, and effectively mentor creative teams, fostering their growth and skill development in both conceptualization and detailed design work.
- Strong presentation and communication skills, with a confident and engaging presence in client-facing situations.
- Deep understanding of pop culture, current digital platforms, evolving social media trends, and consumer behavior within the home and retail space.
- Resilient, proactive, adaptable, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure creative environment with multiple deadlines, managing both strategic input and tactical output.
- Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) is essential for both conceptualization and detailed production work. Experience with video editing or motion graphics software (e.g., After Effects, Premiere Pro) is a significant plus.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects concurrently while maintaining meticulous attention to detail and delivering on time, from broad strokes to fine details for retail campaigns.
- Experience in developing and maintaining comprehensive brand guidelines and ensuring creative consistency across all touchpoints and diverse assets for our retail clients.
- Understanding of e-commerce creative best practices and driving conversion through compelling visual content that is both strategic and well-executed for retail platforms.
- A strategic mindset that can translate business objectives into compelling visual narratives, coupled with the practical skills to bring those narratives to life effectively for retail sales and brand building.
