About the job Mechanical Engineer

Mechanical Designer

Are you a skilled engineer ready to take full ownership of cutting-edge airborne electro-optical systems? We are looking for a talented Mechanical Designer to lead projects from early development through to high-volume serial production. In this role, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team, tackling complex challenges in opto-mechanical and electro-mechanical design within a fast-paced R&D environment. If you are passionate about pushing the limits of performance, precision, and durability under extreme environmental conditions, and you want to see your designs transition from the screen to the production line, we invite you to join us and lead our next generation of airborne solutions.

Job Description

The role involves leading projects as a Mechanical Designer within a multidisciplinary team to develop and transition airborne electro-optical observation systems into serial production:

  • Project Leadership: Full responsibility for leading company projects through various maturity stages until high-volume serial production.
  • Design & Documentation: Lead design improvements and produce detailed manufacturing and assembly drawings.
  • Production Optimization: Lead DFM (Design for Manufacturing), DFA (Design for Assembly), and DTC (Design to Cost) processes.
  • Supplier & Line Support: Manage subcontractors and provide real-time problem-solving support for production lines.
  • Lifecycle Management: Lead root-cause analysis and troubleshooting processes throughout the entire product lifecycle.
  • Revision Control: Lead mechanical design for project revisions and derived configurations.
  • Electronic Packaging: Develop, manufacture, and document electronic packaging (PCB integration and cabling).
  • Product Data Management: Full responsibility for Bill of Materials (BOM) and Engineering Change Orders (ECO).
  • Procurement Support: Support procurement processes during the development phase.
  • Growth Path: Gradual integration into sub-assembly development leading to full ownership of new product development, balancing performance, specifications, precision, weight, and cost.

Requirements

  • Education: B.Sc. in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of experience in mechanical design.
  • Industry Background: Experience in the defense or manufacturing industries – Advantage.
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with opto-mechanical and electro-mechanical assembly development.
  • NPI Skills: Ability to lead the transfer-to-production process and support the product throughout its lifecycle.
  • Mechanism Design: Experience developing delicate mechanisms, assemblies, and static or dynamic systems capable of withstanding extreme environmental conditions.
  • Teamwork: Proven ability to lead mechanical design within short timelines as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Vendor Management: Experience working with and managing subcontractors.
  • Documentation: Proven ability to write development documents and lead design reviews.
  • Software: Full proficiency in SolidWorks.
  • Interpersonal: Excellent human relations, teamwork skills, and a responsible approach.

Advantages

  • Technical Leadership: A broad systemic view and the ability to provide technical project leadership.
  • Packaging: Knowledge of electronic packaging (cards and harnesses) and the transition from development to production.
  • Professional Curiosity: A desire to learn and work on new topics (Optics, fine drive mechanisms, motors, thermal imaging, thermal/stress/flow analysis, industrial design, plastics, and injection molding).
  • Systems & Processes: Familiarity with PLM/Priority software and ECO processes.
  • Languages: Strong command of English.
