Role Overview
We are looking for a results-oriented and visionary leader to oversee our operations in Uganda. This individual will take charge of setting strategic priorities, ensuring smooth business operations, driving commercial success, and maintaining strong regulatory and compliance standards. The role calls for someone who can effectively connect local initiatives with the organizations global objectives, foster a high-performance culture, and position the business for sustainable growth in the Ugandan market.
Core Responsibilities
Business Development
- Craft and lead the implementation of a localized strategic roadmap in alignment with corporate objectives.
- Identify, evaluate, and capture growth opportunities across products, market segments, and partnerships.
- Convert long-term goals into practical execution plans with measurable impact.
Operational Oversight
- Lead daily business activities across multiple departments including Sales, Marketing, Risk, Product, and Customer Service.
- Streamline processes and promote cross-functional coordination to ensure operational excellence.
- Ensure that departmental efforts are synchronized with business goals and strategic initiatives.
- Act as a key ambassador for the company, reflecting its values and upholding a positive corporate image.
Financial Leadership
- Assume full accountability for the Uganda P&L and ensure revenue and profit targets are achieved.
- Lead financial planning, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost optimization.
- Implement strategies to improve financial health and ensure efficient capital allocation.
Regulatory Affairs & Risk Governance
- Guarantee full adherence to all applicable laws and industry regulations, including those relating to data protection, AML, and consumer rights.
- Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory bodies, ensuring transparent and proactive communication.
- Drive the adoption of robust governance and risk management frameworks.
Team Leadership
- Build and mentor a capable, diverse leadership team, aligned with the companys values and objectives.
- Foster an environment of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Lead performance management efforts, talent development programs, and succession planning initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
- Legally permitted to work in Uganda and currently residing in-country.
- Excellent command of English, both verbal and written.
- A minimum of 10 years experience in financial services or a comparable sector, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Strong blend of strategic thinking and practical execution capabilities.
- Proven track record in sales leadership and operational management.
- Analytical mindset with solid business and financial acumen.
- Adept at solving complex problems and making informed decisions.
- Effective communicator with strong relationship-building and influencing skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, and manage high-performing teams.
- High standards of integrity, ethics, and professionalism.
Preferred Attributes
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business, Banking, Finance, or a related discipline.
- In-depth knowledge of Ugandas financial services landscape, including competitors, regulations, and emerging trends.
- Well-established professional network within banking and financial services.
- High emotional intelligence, adaptability, and cultural awareness.
- Entrepreneurial spirit with a proven ability to scale or build businesses in dynamic markets.
