Purpose of the job
Responsible for designing, building, and optimizing robust, scalable, and secure data pipelines and architectures that ensure efficient data flow across Orange Egypts ecosystem. This role focuses on structuring how data is collected, stored, processed, and made accessible for analytics, AI, and business intelligence, ensuring high performance, data quality, and compliance with regulatory standards. By leading both the data engineering practices and architectural governance, the manager ensures that all data assets are efficiently integrated, organized, and readily available to support data-driven decision-making, advanced analytics, and operational excellence across the organization
Duties and responsibilities
- Data Architecture Leadership:
- Design and govern the enterprise data architecture, ensuring it supports current and future business needs.
- Define data integration standards, data models, and frameworks for structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.
- Ensure architectural consistency, scalability, and alignment with data governance and security policies.
- Data Engineering Oversight:
- Lead the development and maintenance of end-to-end data pipelines (ETL/ELT), ensuring efficient data ingestion, transformation, and delivery across multiple systems.
- Manage data integration from diverse sources including operational systems, network data, customer data, and external datasets.
- Optimize data workflows for performance, reliability, and scalability using modern data engineering tools and practices.
- Platform & Pipeline Optimization:
- Implement best practices for data processing, storage management, and orchestration.
- Drive automation in data workflows to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
- Monitor and enhance pipeline performance, ensuring timely and accurate data delivery to downstream systems.
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Manage, mentor, and grow a team of data engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
- Promote agile methodologies and collaborative development practices within the team.
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Work closely with analytics, business intelligence, CVM, IT, and other business units to understand data requirements and deliver reliable data solutions.
- Translate business data needs into technical specifications and scalable engineering solutions.
- Data Quality, Governance & Compliance:
- Ensure data integrity, consistency, and security across all data pipelines and storage layers.
- Implement data lineage, metadata management, and monitoring practices.
- Ensure adherence to telecom regulations, internal policies, and industry standards regarding data handling.
- Continuous Improvement & Innovation:
- Stay updated on advancements in data engineering tools, frameworks, and methodologies.
- Recommend and implement improvements in data architecture and engineering processes to align with evolving business and technology landscapes.
Job specification
Education
Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
Experience
- 7+ years of experience in data engineering, with at least 2+ years in a leadership or architectural role.
- Proven experience in designing and implementing large-scale data pipelines and architectures in complex environments.
- Strong expertise in:
- ETL/ELT processes and data integration.
- Tools such as Apache NiFi, Airbyte, Apache Airflow, or similar orchestration frameworks.
- Working with SQL and distributed query engines (e.g., Trino, Presto).
- Data modeling (star schema, snowflake, data vault) and data warehousing concepts.
- Solid understanding of big data technologies, file formats (Parquet, ORC), and data partitioning strategies.
- Experience with on-premises data environments; familiarity with cloud concepts is a plus but not required.
- knowledge of data governance, data quality frameworks, and security best practices.
- Skills and abilities
- Telecom industry experience is a strong advantage.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with a focus on optimizing data workflows and system performance.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Fluent in English; French is a plus
