Location

Woodland Hills, California. This is a hybrid opportunity with 3 days per week in the office and 2 days per week remote, subject to client and practice needs.

Note

Applicants must have an active California Bar license in good standing and experience with insurance coverage analysis, policy interpretation, coverage opinions, or insurance coverage litigation. A portable book of business is highly preferred but not required.

Job Description

  • Analyze commercial and personal insurance policies and evaluate complex coverage issues.
  • Prepare coverage opinions, reservation of rights letters, denial letters, and other coverage position correspondence.
  • Interpret policy language and applicable law across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Research and analyze complex legal issues affecting insurance coverage.
  • Represent insurers and other clients in insurance coverage litigation.
  • Manage coverage matters through pleadings, discovery, motion practice, mediation, trial, and appeal as applicable.
  • Handle coverage disputes involving construction defect, product liability, employment, landlord-tenant, intellectual property, entertainment, and other complex claims.
  • Communicate legal analyses and strategic recommendations clearly to clients.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships with insurers and other sophisticated clients.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and staff while managing multiple matters and deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate billable and non-billable time records while meeting annual billable-hour expectations.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited or California-accredited law school.
  • Active California Bar license in good standing.
  • Experience with insurance coverage analysis and policy interpretation.
  • Experience drafting insurance coverage opinions or coverage position letters.
  • Commercial and/or personal lines insurance coverage experience.
  • Insurance coverage litigation or related civil litigation experience.
  • Strong legal research, analytical, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and sound professional judgment.
  • First-party or third-party coverage, insurance bad faith, extra-contractual liability, professional liability, trial, or multi-jurisdictional experience is a plus.
  • Portable book of business is highly preferred but not required.
