An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and driven General Manager to lead the operations of a large-scale DIY and home improvement retail store. The role demands an individual with proven retail leadership, excellent commercial awareness, and an in-depth understanding of the building, hardware, and home improvement sectors.

You will be responsible for ensuring seamless day-to-day operations, delivering outstanding customer service, and driving both retail and trade sales in a highly competitive and dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the full operation of a large-format DIY store, overseeing all departments including building materials, tools, garden & outdoor, paint, plumbing, electrical, and seasonal ranges

  • Lead and develop a large team including department managers, supervisors, and floor staff, ensuring high performance and team morale

  • Drive commercial performance through effective P&L management, stock control, sales reporting, and KPI monitoring

  • Maintain high merchandising standards, ensuring planograms, seasonal changes, and promotional displays are executed effectively

  • Build strong relationships with both retail customers and trade professionals, ensuring a tailored, solution-oriented shopping experience

  • Coordinate logistics, deliveries, and inventory flow to support availability and stock integrity

  • Ensure compliance with all health & safety regulations, operational procedures, and company policies

  • Work collaboratively with senior stakeholders to roll out strategic initiatives and business improvements

  • Identify market trends, customer needs, and competitor activity to inform local business strategy

Requirements:

  • Senior management experience within the DIY, home improvement, hardware, or building materials sector is essential

  • Strong background in large-format or big-box retail management

  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex operations, large teams, and diverse product categories

  • Commercially savvy, with experience managing sales targets, margin control, and promotional execution

  • Exceptional leadership, coaching, and team development skills

  • Practical understanding of health & safety compliance and store operational standards

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a hands-on, solutions-driven mindset

  • Proficient in using retail systems, reporting tools, and Microsoft Office

  • Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages is considered a plus
