Head Chef
Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Head Chef to lead the culinary operations of a standalone, homegrown restaurant concept. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, creativity, and a passion for delivering exceptional cuisine. As Head Chef, you will oversee all aspects of kitchen management while ensuring the highest standards of quality, hygiene, and consistency.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation and production of all menu items, ensuring accuracy, presentation, and exceptional quality.
- Maintain impeccable kitchen cleanliness, hygiene, and personal grooming at all times in accordance with company and statutory standards.
- Ensure full compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations, including proper handling, preparation, dating, and rotation of all ingredients.
- Monitor the quality and freshness of all food products.
- Maintain clean, organized, and well-stocked storage areas, utensils, and equipment.
- Implement effective stock management and waste-control systems as directed by the Executive Chef.
- Foster smooth communication and collaboration across departments to support operational efficiency.
- Monitor, record, and report any waste and operational issues.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships within the team and across the operation.
- Participate in training, meetings, and daily briefings; actively contribute ideas and feedback.
- Provide clear leadership to kitchen staff, ensuring all team members understand standards and expectations.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of all menu items, specials, and promotions.
- Follow all kitchen policies, procedures, and service standards.
- Perform additional duties as requested by senior management.
Requirements
- Degree or diploma in Culinary Arts or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years of experience leading a standalone restaurant kitchen as a Head Chef.
- Experience must be from homegrown or standalone restaurants (hotel experience only accepted if the restaurant operates independently within the hotel).
- Strong leadership abilities with proven success in delivering efficiency, consistency, and quality.
- Preference for South African candidates with strong open-fire/grill experience and solid knowledge of meat cuts.
