Job Openings Online Safety Campaign Manager

About the job Online Safety Campaign Manager

We strongly encourage you to apply if this role and our mission sounds interesting to you, even if you are not sure you meet all of the qualifications. We are interested in a wide variety of experiences and backgrounds.

ABOUT US

We serve over 3 million subscribers with content across several platforms and channels (Facebook/Instagram Messenger, SMS, Email, TikTok, Instagram, and web) and reach tens of millions of parents each year through viral content, influencer partnerships, and earned media. We use those same channels to organize parents to speak out in favor of economic justice, public education, affordable childcare, kids’ health, racial justice, online safety, and other important priorities. You can learn more about our work on our website, Instagram and Tiktok.

We mobilize parents on some of the most critical issues impacting families today, particularly focusing on tech accountability, economic justice, public education, affordable childcare, kids’ health, racial justice, and LGBTQIA+ rights.

As an organization, we work collaboratively to solve challenges together. Our strategy framework is based on lean startup principles. We try out ideas quickly, see what works, and iterate. We drive massive impact on high-stakes issues, in a positive, low-ego, low-drama work environment.

Our Online Safety team’s superpower is their ability to identify strong campaign collaboration opportunities, quickly strategize, architect and execute impactful campaigns within an extremely short time span.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Social media companies are now the world’s most powerful entities and their unchecked power is devastating to children and families. They track children and sell their private information to third parties; expose kids to sexual predators, extremist beliefs, and disinformation; intentionally addict them; degrade their mental health and well-being; and delay critical physical skills like hand-eye coordination all while creating a permanent public record of personal information that can be accessed by anyone.

Worst of all? Silicon Valley knows exactly what they are doing (because $$$) and they will keep doing it until millions of concerned people working together fight back. That’s where you come in!

ParentsTogether is seeking a passionate, skilled, resourceful, and experienced Campaign Manager with strong writing, partnership, and project management skills to join our campaign team to take on tech companies. You don’t have to be a parent or have a background working in this area, you just need to be concerned about the impact of social media on the next generation. This role will report to the Online Safety Campaign Director.

Here’s what you’ll be responsible for:

  • Co-create the development of the Online Safety teams priorities and plans, ensuring these plans align with ParentsTogether’s mission and vision

  • Identify opportunities for high-impact digital campaigns that advance online safety and will resonate with parents and the general public. Move very quickly to research, develop, and launch strategic campaigns

  • Act as a media spokesperson for ParentsTogether as needed. Respond quickly to emerging situations related to tech accountability. Write clear, compelling, and media-ready talking points

  • Establish, maintain, and strengthen strategic partnerships and external relationships

  • Own Online Safety’s state legislative portfolios, including managing high level relationships with elected officials and their staff, execute multiple on-the-ground lobbying trips per year, and coordinate ParentsTogether’s involvement in key state legislative coalitions. Write concise, easy to understand updates for members.

  • Work closely with internal teams to recruit, support, and provide advocacy training to parents whose children have suffered serious harms on social media.

You’ll likely be a great fit if you:

  • Have 5 or more years of strong campaign experience in issue advocacy, community organizing, and/or political strategy.

  • Can demonstrate your success, with fast-paced campaign strategic planning

  • Are an excellent campaigner that can deftly handle multiple projects

  • Are flexible, adaptable, and can prioritize effectively in an extremely fast-paced team that is responsive to emerging and unpredictable developments, from tech company announcements to Congressional actions.

  • Have experience working in environments that require rapid response/actions

  • Thrive in collaborative team environments and enjoy working as a part of a team

  • Are a strong self manager who can manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Dream big, plan well, and know how to execute

  • Are an excellent communicator - both written and orally

  • Can demonstrate your ability to collaborate with a team and build positive culture

  • Have experience working within occasionally contentions organizing landscapes - well funded groups working against tech accountability legislation, etc

  • Spanish fluency, a plus
