Job Description

A growing mining and industrial operation in northern New York is seeking an experienced Controller to lead financial operations at a major mine site. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing accounting, financial reporting, and financial planning activities across a complex operational environment. The position works closely with site leadership and corporate finance teams, ensuring financial transparency, operational insight, and strong financial controls as the business continues to expand its mining and resource development operations. This role is ideal for a finance leader who enjoys working directly with operations, driving financial discipline, and implementing systems that support long-term growth. 

Key Responsibilities 

- Lead the site's accounting and financial reporting functions 

- Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes 

- Oversee cost accounting, budgeting, and financial analytics 

- Own FP&A activities, including forecasting across P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, and headcount planning 

- Track capital project spending and fixed asset capitalization 

- Ensure accurate inventory cycle counts and financial controls 

- Prepare financial statements, compliance reports, and regulatory filings Analyze financial results against budgets and forecasts, providing insights to site leadership 

- Support internal and external audit processes 

- Maintain compliance with corporate policies and financial controls 

- Partner with operational teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives 

- Lead financial system improvement initiatives, including ERP selection and implementation 

- Provide financial reporting and ad hoc analysis for both site leadership and corporate stakeholders 

Experience & Requirements 

Minimum 5 years' experience in a senior finance or financial leadership role 

Strong experience in financial reporting, FP&A, and cost accounting 

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel 

Extensive experience using QuickBooks 

Experience supporting ERP selection and implementation 

Experience working within mining, industrial, manufacturing, or construction environments Strong understanding of internal controls and SOX compliance 

Knowledge of IFRS accounting standards 

Familiarity with tax and transfer pricing considerations 

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills 

Ability to work collaboratively across operational and corporate teams 

Desirable Experience 

Experience within public company environments 

CPA qualification (preferred but not essential) 

Experience applying agile or lean operational practices 

Background in complex operational industries such as mining, manufacturing, or heavy industry Working Environment 

This is a fully on-site leadership role within a collaborative operational environment. 

The successful candidate will work closely with mine leadership and cross-functional teams to support both daily financial operations and long-term strategic growth initiatives.
