About the job Head of Infrastructure
About the Company and Role
We are hiring for a US-based systematic quantitative trading firm operating a global, exchange-connected production infrastructure.
The environment is largely on-premise, with physical presence in major colocation facilities including CME Aurora, Equinix (US and EU), and ICE environments. Market data volumes exceed 1 TB per day and continue to grow. Hardware layout, routing strategy, and exchange connectivity directly affect trading performance.
We are looking for a Head of Infrastructure who will take full ownership of this distributed setup, review the current architecture, align capacity with trading growth, introduce cost transparency, and bring a clearer structure to how the team operates.
This role requires proven experience operating exchange-connected infrastructure across colocation environments, bare metal systems, and production networks, with clear ownership of cost and capacity decisions.
Location: Austin, TX (USA) / London, UK / Munich, Germany (full-time, office-based).
We are offering:
- Highly competitive compensation package structured to reflect the scope of responsibility and long-term business impact;
- A senior leadership role with direct exposure to trading and technology decision-making;
- Real authority to shape architectural direction, cost discipline, and operational standards;
- Health, vision, and dental insurance;
- Flexible sick time policy.
What kind of qualifications we are looking for:
- Experience operating production infrastructure in electronic trading or other exchange-connected environments;
- Strong understanding of networking in office and datacenter contexts, including DNS, TCP/IP, NAT, VPN, and routing fundamentals;
- Practical experience working with hardware, including assessment of server and network equipment needs and component-level replacement such as NICs, memory, drives, and system boards;
- Comfort working in colocation environments with physical rack presence;
- Administration experience across Linux, Windows, and macOS, with an architectural understanding of higher-level services such as distributed storage;
- Experience writing automation scripts in Bash, Perl, or Python and deploying them via scheduling or orchestration tools;
- Solid engineering fundamentals, including clean coding practices and familiarity with OOP concepts;
- Experience deploying and maintaining database systems in production;
- Previous experience leading infrastructure or datacenter teams, ideally with exposure to budget and capacity planning.
Responsibilities:
- Review the current setup across datacenters and exchange connectivity, and identify structural gaps;
- Define and execute a modernization roadmap with clear priorities;
- Introduce measurable KPIs around reliability, cost efficiency, and capacity utilization;
- Clarify ownership within the team and adjust responsibilities where needed;
- Oversee hardware lifecycle planning, vendor coordination, and physical infrastructure strategy;
- Strengthen monitoring standards and incident response processes;
- Ensure the platform can scale in line with trading volume and strategy evolution.
If you have built and operated exchange-connected environments where latency, reliability, and cost discipline matter, and you are ready to take responsibility for a global setup that directly supports live trading, we would like to speak with you.
