Position Scope
Role Brief
A strong AU Payroll Officer responsible for managing end-to-end contractor payroll processing (approx. 25–30 contractors, growing), ensuring statutory compliance and payment accuracy, while gradually supporting the finance team with reconciliations, payroll reporting, and accounting transactions. The role focuses on stabilizing and scaling contractor payroll processes during a period of business growth.
Key Role Deliverables
- Own and process contractor payroll accurately and on time
- Review and validate timesheets, adjustments, and payroll inputs
- Ensure compliance with AU statutory obligations (STP, superannuation, payroll tax as applicable)
- Support onboarding and payroll setup for new contractors
- Assist with payroll reconciliations and payroll-to-invoice alignment
- Prepare payroll reports and support finance reporting requirements
- Upload payroll journals and assist with accounting transactions
- Support process improvement as contractor volume scales
- Maintain accuracy and compliance during growth phase
Education Requirement
Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or related discipline preferred but not mandatory
Strong AU payroll experience may substitute for formal qualification
Minimum Years of Experience in similar role
- 4–6 years total payroll experience
- At least 3+ years hands-on Australian payroll processing experience
- Experience owning payroll cycles independently preferred
Technical System Experience
- Australian payroll systems (any AU-compliant platform)
- STP lodgement experience
- Superannuation processing
- Payroll tax exposure (lodgement experience preferred)
- Xero experience preferred
- Timesheet-based payroll processing systems (e.g., FastTrack or similar)
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel (reconciliations, payroll reporting)
- Basic accounting system exposure for journal uploads and reconciliations
