About the job Australian Bookkeeper (Accounting Firm)
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Australian Accountant with a strong background in Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS) using Xero. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Australian tax regulations and a proven track record of managing accounting processes and compliance efficiently. This role requires attention to detail, proficiency in Xero, and the ability to manage multiple tasks with accuracy.
Key Responsibilities:
BAS and IAS Preparation
- Accurately prepare and lodge BAS and IAS for clients, ensuring compliance with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) regulations and deadlines.
- Review and reconcile GST, PAYG withholding, PAYG instalments, and other relevant tax components in Xero to ensure accurate reporting.
Financial Reporting
- Generate and review financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements using Xero.
- Assist clients in understanding their financial position and provide insights and recommendations for improving financial performance.
Xero Accounting Management
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records in Xero, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger entries.
- Manage Xero integrations, ensuring that all financial data is accurately captured and reflected in the system.
Compliance and Tax Advisory
- Provide expert advice on tax compliance, including GST, income tax, and superannuation obligations.
- Stay updated on changes in Australian tax laws and regulations to ensure clients remain compliant and informed of any impacts on their business.
Client Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, offering ongoing support and advice tailored to their specific accounting needs.
- Communicate complex accounting concepts in a clear and understandable manner to clients with varying levels of financial knowledge.
Audit and Review Support
- Assist in the preparation of documents and reports required for audits or reviews by the ATO or external auditors.
- Work closely with clients and auditors to ensure smooth audit processes and timely resolution of any queries.Qualifications and Experience:
Education:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA or CA qualification preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting, with a focus on BAS and IASpreparation in Australia.
- Extensive experience using Xero for accounting and tax management.
Skills:
- Proficient in Xero accounting software, including advanced features and integrations.
- Strong knowledge of Australian tax regulations, particularly GST, PAYG, and superannuation.
- Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong communication and client management skills.
This role will require you to work on 9am - 6pm AUST time from Mondays to Fridays on a remote set-up.
