Role Overview:
We're seeking a detail-oriented, empathetic, and customer-focused Bookkeeper to join our team. In this role, you will manage a portfolio of customer accounts, ensuring an exceptional end-to-end experience. Your responsibilities will include maintaining accurate and complete financial records while providing timely, high-quality support to our customers.
As the go-to expert for our clients bookkeeping needs, you'll combine your technical expertise with a customer-first mindset to help business owners understand and trust their financials. This role is perfect for someone who's passionate about combining their financial knowledge with outstanding customer service to help small businesses thrive.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week, Monday to Friday) and requires availability during North American business hours.
Key Responsibilities:
Bookkeeping & Account Management:
- Collect and manage customer data, including categorizing transactions, reconciling
accounts, and ensuring accuracy and completeness. - Maintain the accuracy of your customers' accounts through ledger and data
management - Make adjustments to accounts as needed, addressing discrepancies, resolving
account balance issues and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. - Conduct periodic reviews of client accounts to ensure all financial data is accurate
and up to date.
Customer Support & Communication:
- Act as the primary point of contact for assigned clients, ensuring clear, timely, and
empathetic communication. - Develop and maintain meaningful connections and relationships with your
portfolio of small businesses. - Respond to customer inquiries, resolve issues, and provide guidance on financial
processes and reports. - Unblock work and bookkeeping completion through proactive communication with
your customers
Problem Solving & Ownership:
- Proactively identify potential issues in customer accounts and provide solutions to
ensure their financial success. - Take full ownership of customer satisfaction and the quality of bookkeeping
deliverables.
What you'll get up to:
- Collaborate with internal teams to elevate the customer experience
- Utilize platforms like our Bench App, SalesForce, Slack, and Confluence (our internal knowledge base) to complete daily tasks, prioritize your work, and provide your customers with financial insights and answers.
- Manage your customers account data, to ensure that anyone working on the account is
using up-to-date, accurate information. - Work with customers to keep their bookkeeping up to date, answer incoming questions, and proactively ensure a positive experience with Bench. Most communication will be done through our in-app messaging service, email, and over the phone.
- Provide recommendations to customers to improve their financial health and streamline their bookkeeping.
- Maintain a deep understanding of our tech tools and bookkeeping best practices to provide top-notch service.
- Complete categorization, adjustment, and other related bookkeeping tasks to provide customers with up-to-date monthly financials
- Conduct monthly bookkeeping reviews, and finalize any outstanding bookkeeping tasks, to
ensure the completeness and accuracy of your customers' accounts.
What you'll need:
- Experience: 2+ years of bookkeeping or tax filing experience in the United States,
preferably working with small to medium-sized businesses. - Technical Skills: Proficiency in bookkeeping software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero) and
familiarity with accounting principles. - Customer-Facing Expertise: Strong communication skills, empathy, and a commitment to
delivering exceptional customer experiences. - Problem-Solving Ability: A knack for identifying and clarifying issues, finding creative
solutions, and taking ownership to see them through. - Feedback-Driven Mindset: Openness to giving and receiving constructive feedback and a
commitment to applying it to improve performance and outcomes. - Attention to Detail: A meticulous approach to data accuracy and completeness.
- Ownership Mentality: A proactive attitude and accountability for your work and your
customers success. - Education: A degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred but not required
