Job Details

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the advancement of Australias national measurement capabilities by supporting the digital infrastructure that underpins scientific laboratories.

The role is based at one of DISRs laboratories (Lindfield, North Ryde, or Port Melbourne), where you will collaborate with scientists, technicians, and ICT professionals to enhance the performance and usability of an air-gapped Local Area Network (LAN).

You will play a key role in bridging laboratory operations with digital systems helping to modernise workflows, improve data management practices, and ensure that laboratory software and systems are optimally configured and maintained.

Your work will directly support Australia's scientific and industrial innovation by ensuring reliable, secure, and efficient digital operations.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Engage with testing laboratories to develop and implement work practices and procedures leveraging the air-gapped LAN (with business change management support).

  • Map data flows and storage, developing a current-state understanding of data handling practices.

  • Report and present solution uptake and issues to management and staff user forums, contributing to ICT project governance reporting.

  • Interact with laboratory users and software vendors to maintain a register of software and licences to support procurement planning.

  • Contribute to development of documentation and procedures supporting sustainable and secure digital operations.

Selection Criteria

Essential Criteria

  1. Demonstrated experience (minimum 3 years) supporting IT enhancement projects, including instrument control software, data mapping, storage, workflow, or information management systems.

  2. Demonstrated self-motivation and organisational skills, combined with well-developed analytical and problem-solving ability, operating autonomously under broad direction.

  3. Proven ability to collaborate effectively, negotiate, and influence to maintain productive relationships with management, operational staff, and vendors.

  4. Excellent communication skills, particularly for engaging with diverse laboratory staff and producing high-quality reports and technical documentation.

  5. Experience supporting ICT operations in scientific laboratories, either as an analyst or in a support capacity.

  6. Must hold an active Baseline AGSVA security clearance at time of interview.


Desirable Criteria

  1. Tertiary qualifications in chemistry, biology, physics, engineering, or ICT.

  2. Knowledge in software development, cyber security, and data analysis.

  3. Familiarity with scientific laboratory standards and accreditations (e.g. TGA, NATA).
