Job Details

The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing is undertaking several ICT-enabled initiatives focused on delivering business change, improving capability, and stabilising its IT environment.

The Dynamics 365 Platform Architect utilises deep knowledge of organisational business needs to translate strategy and requirements into robust technical solutions.

The role supports the Dynamics 365 Business Applications Program, which delivers and operationally manages a suite of D365 applications across the department.

The program operates within a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) using a DevOps delivery model, with six scrum teams responsible for both delivery and operational outcomes.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Platform Architect (SFIA Level 6) will undertake tasks including, but not limited to:

  • Work with key business areas to provide guidance on functional and technical capabilities of Microsoft Power Platform, Dynamics 365 applications, related Microsoft cloud solutions and third-party technologies

  • Provide Microsoft D365 SME consultation, maintaining knowledge of emerging technologies and driving strategic collaboration, modernisation and productivity roadmap initiatives

  • Understand IT and business priorities to design implementation architectures and solutions (Microsoft D365 and Azure) that address complex business problems

  • Support business and product managers in developing and maintaining Project Plans, Schedules, Test Plans and Acceptance Criteria for D365 capabilities

  • Lead large and complex initiatives involving multiple departments, new or emerging technologies, high visibility and organisational risk

  • Collaborate with IT staff, subject matter experts, business partners and senior managers to plan, design and deliver architecture services

  • Lead design and implementation activities, providing architectural oversight, troubleshooting and optimisation recommendations across architectural domains

  • Evaluate alternative solutions, assess suitability within enterprise roadmaps, and manage architectural risks

  • Work with domain architects to deliver integrated solutions through shared services and integration views

  • Align solution designs with the ICT Strategy 2023–2025 and participate in architecture governance forums

  • Maintain architectural artefacts including SADs, DTTs, security approvals and governance papers

  • Provide leadership and direction to Solution Architects to ensure consistent design patterns across the branch

  • Lead discussions with business and technology stakeholders to develop and communicate technical vision

  • Ensure effective transfer of skills and knowledge to departmental staff


Technical Skills

  • Bachelors Degree preferred; advanced technology-focused degree desirable

  • Formal certifications desirable, including TOGAF 9, COBIT 5 Foundation, SAFe, Scrum and/or ITIL v3 Foundation

  • Minimum 10 years experience working across IT environments in application design or development


Selection Criteria

Essential criteria

  1. Bachelors/Masters degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline.

  2. Extensive experience in SAP (S/4HANA), data integration tools, and Azure.

  3. Strong analytical, stakeholder engagement, and communication skills.

  4. Deep knowledge of data governance and compliance in the public sector environment.


Desirable criteria

  1. Candidates should provide a minimum of 2 referees.

    Referee checks may be performed for candidates shortlisted for interview.
