Job Details
The Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for implementing, managing, and retiring infrastructure solutions including physical, virtual, networking, and cloud systems supporting digital services for the AFP.
This role involves the deployment and configuration of complex ICT solutions and providing technical leadership to ensure reliable, secure, and high-performing infrastructure environments.
Key Duties and Responsibilities

Provide Infrastructure Engineering and Systems Administration services to assist with deployment and configuration of solutions into the AFP ICT environment.

Offer technical direction and advice to vendors performing professional services on behalf of the AFP.

Design and configure AFP infrastructure to support business applications.

Provide technical leadership and mentorship within small team environments.

Deliver knowledge transfer through clear and concise documentation, diagrams, and procedures.

Maintain files and information in accordance with AFP governance requirements.
Technical Focus Areas

Windows Server configuration and administration (Active Directory, ADFS, IIS)
-
Linux Systems Ubuntu / Red Hat (RHEL) administration and optimisation
-
Scripting PowerShell and automation scripting
-
Virtualisation VMware vSphere management and performance tuning

Database Platforms SQL Server (optimisation, upgrades, consolidation, virtualisation)

Storage & Backup Dell technologies including Networker & Isilon

Proven experience designing, configuring, and supporting Microsoft Windows-based ICT infrastructure services.

Experience with government-standard security assessments, configuration, and change management documentation processes (particularly in national security contexts).
Highly Desirable

Expertise managing Ubuntu and/or Red Hat systems (including Red Hat Satellite).

Experience with infrastructure automation using Ansible and related tools.

Knowledge of containerisation and orchestration technologies.

Experience with security management tools such as WSUS, SCCM, Nessus, Nmap, SELinux, and firewalls.
