Position Overview
Pinewood seeks a dynamic and experienced Middle & High School Visual Arts Teacher to join our faculty beginning in the 2026–2027 academic year. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching, a strong understanding of studio-based and inquiry-driven instruction, and the ability to cultivate creativity, technical skill, and artistic confidence in a diverse international environment.
We seek educators who employ student-centered pedagogical approaches, foster creative exploration and artistic voice, collaborate effectively with colleagues, and partner with students and families to support students’ academic, emotional, and social growth.
Scope of the Position
The Middle & High School Visual Arts Teacher reports to the Principals and the Arts Department Chair. The position is part-time and may include teaching Visual Arts in Grades 6–12, including a Fashion Design course.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
- Design and deliver engaging daily lessons aligned with the National Core Art Standards for middle and high school students, including instruction in Visual Arts and Fashion Design
- Design learning experiences that develop creativity, technical skills, critical thinking, and artistic voice, and apply instructional differentiation to respond to individual student needs
- Teach foundational and advanced concepts in art-making, design processes, and fashion design, including sketching, construction, and presentation as appropriate
- Foster an environment that encourages experimentation, reflection, craftsmanship, and safe use of materials and equipment
Assessment & Student Support
- Design and administer formative and summative assessments to drive learning
- Differentiate assessment to ensure equitable access and meaningful demonstration of learning
- Monitor student progress, maintain accurate academic records, and document growth in both process and final work
Support all SEN accommodations and learning support plans
- Collect and record student performance data in accordance with school policies
Submit grades and written feedback in a timely manner
Collaboration & School Life
- Work closely with the Arts Department Chair and colleagues on curriculum planning
Participate actively in faculty meetings and professional development
Carry out advisory duties as assigned
Communicate professionally and regularly with students and parents
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences and school events, including evening sessions
- Supervise students and contribute to a safe, respectful learning environment, including the safe management of studio spaces and materials
Chaperone school activities on a rotational basis
Participate in the faculty appraisal system
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Visual Arts, Art Education, Fashion Design, or a related field
Valid teaching certification/license appropriate to the position
Native or near-native proficiency in English
- Demonstrated experience teaching Middle and/or High School Visual Arts; experience teaching Fashion Design is preferred
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a professional learning community
- Experience in an international or multicultural school setting, and familiarity with the National Core Arts Standards (preferred)
