Position Overview

Pinewood seeks a dynamic and experienced Middle & High School English Teacher to join our faculty beginning in the 2026–2027 academic year. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching, a strong understanding of differentiated instruction, and the ability to support both native and non-native English speakers in a diverse international environment.

We seek educators who employ student-centered pedagogical approaches, collaborate effectively with colleagues, and partner with students and families to support students academic, emotional, and social growth.

Pinewood teachers are reflective practitioners committed to ongoing professional growth and continuous improvement. Prior experience teaching in an AP or MYP school are considered strong advantages for the position. All candidates must be English native speakers.

Scope of the Position

The Middle & High School English Teacher reports to the Principals and the English Department Chair. The position is full-time and may include teaching courses in Grades 6–12, such as:

  • English Language & Literature
  • American Literature
  • World Literature
  • Other departmental courses as needed

Assignments may include both Middle School and High School classes.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

  • Design and deliver engaging daily lessons aligned with AERO standards, the MYP framework, and AP curricula (as applicable)
  • Prepare original course outlines and instructional materials
  • Design learning experiences using Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles, and apply instructional differentiation to respond to individual student needs.
  • Support language development of non-native English speakers
  • Complete the yearly curriculum as outlined by the department

Assessment & Student Support

  • Design and administer formative and summative assessments to drive learning
  • Differentiate assessment to ensure equitable access and demonstration of learning
  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate academic records
  • Support all SEN accommodations and learning support plans
  • Collect and record student performance data in accordance with school policies
  • Submit grades and written feedback in a timely manner

Collaboration & School Life

  • Work closely with the English Department Chair and colleagues on curriculum planning
  • Participate actively in faculty meetings and professional development
  • Carry out advisory duties as assigned
  • Communicate professionally and regularly with students and parents
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences and school events, including evening sessions
  • Supervise students and contribute to a safe, respectful school environment
  • Chaperone school activities on a rotational basis
  • Participate in the faculty appraisal system

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or higher in English (Masters degree preferred)
  • Valid teaching certification/license appropriate to the position
  • Native-level proficiency in English
  • Demonstrated experience teaching in Middle and/or High School levels (MYP/AP preferred)
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a professional learning community
  • Experience in an international or multicultural school setting (preferred)
