About the job Plant Manager
Our client in the coal mining industry is looking for a skilled experienced Plant Manager to oversee the day to day operations at their mining facility. The individual will report to the Operations Director and will play a key role in optimizing plant performance, implementing best practices, and fostering a strong culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement across all operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all day-to-day operations of the Coal Processing Plant in accordance with company policies, safety standards, and production objectives.
- Oversee and coordinate all aspects of plant performance, including production, engineering, maintenance, housekeeping, training, safety, cost control, and stock management.
- Plan and implement production schedules, maintenance programs, and resource allocation to achieve quality and output targets efficiently.
- Identify, plan, and ensure timely completion of maintenance activities with high-quality workmanship and minimal downtime.
- Monitor plant performance, conduct fault finding, and recommend or implement corrective and preventive actions to optimize operations.
- Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations, and promote a strong culture of compliance and accountability.
- Prepare, review, and submit all required operational reports, including production data, maintenance logs, budgets, forecasts, stock reports, and month-end summaries, to Head Office within prescribed timeframes.
- Manage personnel matters including recruitment, onboarding, training, performance evaluation, disciplinary procedures, and staff development, in coordination with HR and the Operations Director where applicable.
- Plan and implement staff schedules and leave cycles to ensure adequate operational coverage.
- Maintain effective communication and collaboration with the General Manager, service departments, and Head Office to ensure smooth coordination and continuous improvement.
- Manage plant budgets responsibly, ensuring costs are controlled and resources utilized efficiently.
- Uphold strong client relationships by providing professional service and ensuring client satisfaction.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce costs, and enhance plant productivity and safety.
- Build, coach, and mentor a competent, motivated, and reliable workforce to ensure sustained operational excellence.
Qualifications & Education:
- Bachelors Degree or BTech in Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Processing, or similar
- Postgraduate or management qualification (e.g., Diploma in Advanced Business Management) will be an added advantage.
- Certification or training in ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environment), and OHSAS 18001 (Safety & Health) is desirable.
- Additional qualifications in Coal Preparation, Process Control, or Maintenance Management will be an advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 15 years experience in the mining and mineral processing industry, preferably within coal or base mineral operations.
- At least 8-10 years in a senior supervisory or management role overseeing plant operations.
- Proven experience in plant commissioning, project execution, and process optimization.
- Demonstrated success in asset and maintenance management, cost control, and operational planning.
- Experience managing cross-functional teams and contractors in multicultural settings.
- Sound financial and business acumen with budget management experience.
- Proficiency in production and maintenance systems (e.g., SAP or equivalent).
