Role Overview:
The role leads the end-to-end management of the reinsurance claims function, from notification through settlement, recovery and filing while owning service quality, turnaround standards and data integrity across the portfolio.
Responsibilities:
Claims Lifecycle Management and Oversight:
- Lead the end-to-end management of reinsurance claims - notification, acknowledgement, loss advice, finalization, settlement, recovery and filing; ensuring accuracy, compliance and agreed turnaround standards across the portfolio.
- Oversee review of preliminary loss notifications from brokers and cedants; confirm whether accounts are bound and ensure prompt acknowledgement.
- Ensure loss details are complete and accurate, cross-checked against the computation sheet, and that any clarifications are raised with cedants the same day or by the next business day.
- Supervise generation of Preliminary Loss Advices (PLA) and the issue of Loss Advice communications to reinsurers.
- Take direct ownership of large, complex, sensitive or contentious losses across facultative and treaty structures.
Finalised Claim Processing
- Ensure finalised claim documents from cedants are acknowledged without delay and claim files are prepared in line with PLA requirements.
- Oversee accurate recording of finalised claims in the Computation Sheet and movement of tracker status from open to finalised.
- Ensure the Claims Master Sheet is updated with both booked and settled figures upon finalisation.
Reinsurer Follow-Up, Recovery & Negotiation
- Lead structured monthly follow-ups with reinsurers to pursue recoveries and obtain confirmation of their share of loss.
- Negotiate and resolve disputes, shortfalls or queries on RI shares, escalating to the Head of Department where appropriate.
- Ensure timely generation of the appropriate debit or credit note for each transaction.
- Monitor ageing of outstanding recoveries and reserve movements, driving action to minimize leakage and delay.
Data Integrity & Records
- Ensure claims records, computations and master data (Claims Master Sheet and trackers) are accurate, reconciled and audit-ready at all times.
- Safeguard complete, well-organised documentation and ensure debit/credit notes are processed and approved in line with internal controls.
Stakeholder Management
- Act as a key point of contact for cedants, brokers and reinsurers across markets and time zones, delivering responsive and professional service.
- Coordinate effectively with internal teams — placement, technical accounts and the Head of Department — to move claims to resolution.
Team Leadership & Continuous Improvement
- Guide, review and develop the team, upholding technical standards and process discipline.
- Provide management reporting on open claims, reserves and recoveries, and drive improvement of claims workflows and controls.
- Deputise for the Head of Department on claims matters as required.
Requirements:
- 4 – 6 years in reinsurance claims, RI operations or related financial-services role
- Bachelor's degree in insurance, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Professional insurance qualification (e.g. CII / ACII) will be a plus.
- Proven reinsurance claims handling across facultative and treaty business; reinsurer recovery and negotiation.
