RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create all types of VFX (Combat, Environment, User Interface) for the game you will be working on.
  • With the guidance of the Technical Art team, create the materials that you will need for VFX.
  • Create any support meshes, textures, masks, and sprite sheets you might need in the VFX creation process.
  • Create and setup the destructible state of any destructible assets.
  • Judge when a VFX element is worth making from scratch or it is better to source from third-party packages. Be able to mix the two sources with no issue.
  • Help the rest of the team to stay under/at performance targets and do any necessary adjustments to the VFX of the project to hit them.
  • Proactively seek out opportunities to identify and deal with issues before they arise.
  • Research with the goal to expand the visual quality of VFX while preserving performance and having an optimal pipeline.
  • Buy into the established art vision of the game and ensure this is delivered in its entirety.
  • Serve as Mentor for less experienced VFX Artists and help them evolve their skills.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2.5+ years of professional experience as a VFX Artist in the Games Industry, with at least 1 game released.
  • Thorough knowledge of Unreal game engine, with good knowledge of Material Editor and Niagara, as well as basic knowledge of Blueprints.
  • Sufficient knowledge of tools like 3d Studio Max or Maya, Photoshop, Substance Designer.
  • Knowing when to ‘throw something together’ for prototyping, when you need to sacrifice quality for time and when it is time to polish.
  • Love to collaborate and to work within a team. Willing to provide and accept direction and the ability to embrace change.
  • Love playing and creating games while thinking about how to take them to the next level.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with Houdini, for both particle and destruction simulations.
  • Experience with developing and releasing game(s) on consoles.
  • Experience with any proprietary game engines and/or Unity.
  • Experience with both realistic and stylized VFX.
